I myself have never been on it but someone I live with is on prozac and it makes him so sick, his stomach always hurts and he is always very dizzy. Matter of fact he is switching to Zoloft.

When I first had the pills I was desperate because I felt so low. I took my one a day religiously. After a while I'd forget to take the odd pill and would be worried about it. Later still, I'd forget to take a pill and it wouldn't bother me. I think that's when I knew I was getting better. I was on Prozac for 5 months and I had no trouble. I think you can get side effects but I didn't have any at all. The only thing I noticed - apart from the fact that I felt a lot better - was that on waking in the morning I was instantly alert. Normally it takes me an hour to wake up properly. I need a cup of tea and a lounge around in my PJs for a while before I can get going. On Prozac my eyes opened and I was totally AWAKE and ready for action. I also had the most wonderful dreams while I was taking it. It was just like going to the pictures every night. No bad ones but they were all really WEIRD and I could remember them in detail when I woke up. Hope this helps you.

As a pharmacist, i have to tell you that i have seen people have mixed results with this medication. If you are just going thru a phase a depression (i.e. it hasn't been a life long problem) then prozac probably isn't right for you. Most people who start prozac never get off of it (compared to other anti-depressive medications.) and need to continually increase the dosage. Prozac can also cause weight gain. Make sure you have a clear understanding of this drugs limitations/successes by speaking with your doctor, its very specific to the individual.

i have taken prozac in the past and have found it 2 be extremely helpful as a mood stabiliser.it gave me peace without feeling out of it in any way.on the down side,at the beginning it made me a little sleepy and i had some sharp migraine type pain that lasted about a half a second and felt a bit dumbed down before it started working...but it was all minor crap.whilst on it i had the peace to deal with so much crap and am a hundred times better than i would be having not taken it.

I've taken this the generic formula of Prozac and i found it better than Zoloft or Lexapro, but that could just be me. My panic attacks came less often and eventually disappeared and my stress level also dropped.
Everyone is different. If you're planning on taking Prozac, try it for a month, if things aren't getting better or if it's getting worse, switch brands.

When I first was on Prozac I was having awful symptoms. A friend of mine investigated the side affects of it and it was amazing - I was having nearly all the major and minor side affects of the drug. Ironically enough most of the side affects are also signs of major or minor depression, so it was impossible to determine which symptom was part of the depression and which were merely side affects of the medication that was supposed to alleviate them. It took quite a while to get the right dosage and for my body to adjust to the medication. One of the lasting side affects for me seems to be an anomaly - tinnitus ( ringing of the ears on and off, with different pitches and at times ultra hearing - being able to understand the TV of the neighbor above me even though it's volume is at a "normal " level).
Like all psychotropic medications everyone will experience varied results and varying side affects. This may not be the correct medication for you. Be sure you tell your doctor or therapist all the symptoms you are experiencing.

A doctor put me on it years ago for migraines. The side effects were very mild except for the negative sexual side effects (nothing mild about this). I quit taking it after 6 or 7 months since it wasn't helping my migraines.
I thank heaven that all of the side effects went away. I spoke with two other doctors about the sexual side effects and they said that almost everyone who takes prozac has decreased libido (male and female) and impotence.
It is supposed to be a fantastic medication for most psycological ailments. I've heard people say that it has given them their lives back and have called it a wonder drug.
