The Mexicans come to the U.S. to earn money which they send back to Mexico. Why wouldn't the Mexican President be in favor of that?

Re: Discrimination - the word "illegal" is not negotiable. Illegal is illegal is illegal. Why don't one million Mexicans parade, demonstrate, and demand more from their own government instead of demanding rights from ours? Since when does an illegal immigrant have rights? By the way, isn't Mexico an oil-rich country? Why doesn't the country reflect that?

He is a real jerk. When he can run his own country properly and take care of his own people, then perhaps he would have a leg to stand on. But, for him to say the illegal criminal aliens in my country are discriminated against, it is just a bunch of BS. Of course, Bush is probably shuddering in his shoes that el presidente has those thoughts.

Simplistic answers are all I have seen here so far.

America and Mexico have to do something about the immigration problem because it was convenient to both.

Both countries turned a blind eye until it just got too big to ignore.

Not all immigrants are Mexican, but Americans are very practical people, anyone who looks vaguely hispanic or latin american is immediately labeled as a Mexican, whether they come from Venezuela, Cuba, Honduras or wherever.

America has always looked upon Mexico and the rest of Latin America as a backyard and a dump. Mexico and latin America supply cheap labor, cheap disposable labor at that. Many American employers used and abused this benefit, twisting the immigration laws when their slaves started to think on their own. It has also spawned a profitable trade, one that deals with human beings. That business is mostly run by drug dealers as a side business, because after all, the greatest drug market in the world is precisely located in the USA. Unfortunately it seems USA is not doing much towards curbing the appetite for drugs among the population.

Mexico is at fault because for decades the country has been incapable of providing much needed jobs, so all those people with no opportunities leave the country, which is a social escape valve. Maybe with harsher laws and a closed border Mexico will be forced to actually do something about it, even it means social unrest and upheaval. There are many things that need to be straightened out.

The problem is not only keeping more aliens out, but having to deal with those already in, and who have been there for years, had children and made a life.

The Mexican President is not trying to run immigration laws, but is calling for both countries to finally do something about it. And yes, illegals in the US are discriminated against, if you don't believe me just read the immigration section in YA.

And for those who think Mexico is still an Oil Rich country, well that is no longer true. The oil reserves will run out in ten years. The only company that can drill, extract, refine and distribute any oil or oil products, is run by the state. It has been drowning for decades in a mire of corruption and it is also manipulated by a corrupt union. The one time a President tried to include successful businessmen as board members, with the purpose of making the company a better one, Congress voted against the measure, because they said it was going private, and that was unthinkable. The other reason this company is not doing well is because 90 percent of the profits are used by the Mexican government to fund their irresponsible budgeting mistakes. They also tax the company to death, depriving it of much needed funds that should be reinvested to improve their refineries and equipment. The tax collection system is inefficient, cumbersome and one of the most difficult to comply with in the world. Most people just do their business and pay no taxes at all. The ony ones who are stuck with paying taxes are those who do it by the book and set up a business or are employees on payroll. That means that 10% of the productive population have to support the rest of the country through their taxes. The rest comes from oil revenues. Oil has not improved life for the population. The same thing that happened here is going on in African nations, where corruption among a few powerful is blatant, and of course it does not extend to the rest of the population. They of course, fare worse than before the oil boom.
When the oil runs out in Mexico I wonder what will happen.

Usually Americans learn about other nations from the media. Usually the info there is derogatory. Read something about Mexico from informed unbiased sources, before judging.

Talk is cheap.

Well, his country is already in financial ruin, so he doesn't care WHO he steps on or how many criminals he has to let sneak across the border, he's going to fix his mess and he's putting it off on the middle class citizens of the United States.

If he thinks THEY are discriminated against, then he needs look back at his own set of laws against immigrants.

He is as much an A$$HOLE as he is a HYPOCRITE! He thinks he can just export the country's poverty into the United States. If some Mexican were to "take him out", it would be fine with me.

He's just looking out for his people. Mexicans have been stealing, raping, killing and bribing for years. It's normal to them. People with power just flash their money and get what they want. He's a psychopath that doesn't know any better.

He doesn't give a hoot about his own people while they are there, but let them come to the US and they are a goldmine!!!!!

His ONLY worry is a steady flow of US dollars... to the tune of BILLIONS yearly.

He should be taking care of his Country, but wants to run the US instead. Glad he got snubbed in Canada! Let's just not invite him next time
