We got a cat from the shelter and all my plants started to die, then i noticed they smelt like cat pee.

I haven't seen her pee on them, she must do it at night. But how can I get her to stop?

First, replant! After you've put in all the soil, add a layer of pebbles and spray the pebbles with vinegar or hot pepper wax or bitter apple spray. She's probably marking, but make sure she is using the litter box as well.

Get this thing called SSScat. (www.ssscat.com)

It is an aerosol can that has a motion detector on it. Angle it towards your plants, and when your cat goes near it, the stuff will make a loud spraying noise and scare the bejeezes out of him. He will run from those plants like there's no tomorrow. He will learn after a couple of days to steer clear of those plants.

Also, put 1 or 2 extra litter boxes in your house, then gradually move them closer to the main litter box, and then remove them one at a time. And make sure you keep that little box clean!

Trust me, these 2 combined will definitely work for you.

Good luck.

It is more natural for the cat to pee on a plant and dig in the dirt and I concur that he/she is marking the territory. To make them stop, bring the cat over and with a harsh voice, discipline the cat and rub his nose in the dirt a little. Don't spank him, just growl like an animal- it is silly but they respond to that sound. It you catch the cat peeing, have a spray bottle filled with water and spray the cat- they hate it.

I've had good results with putting a layer of pine cones over the dirt in my houseplants. Cats just like to dig and pee in dirt. You could also try putting the litterbox next to the plants.

Good luck!

It depends. Are they spraying your plant or are they digging in the dirt and peeing? If they're spraying your plants their marking there territories. If they are digging and peeing there using your plant as a litter box. They love potting soil under their paws. Crazy little beasts!
