A guy crashed into a tree after "losing control" after his gas pedal "got stuck" after going over a second speed bump.

Somehow he turned left right after the speed bump, went over the sidewalk, over the front lawn of the corner house, across the street and into a tree.

He was NOT driving a muscle car with a carb. He was driving a small beater with fuel injection.

He put the passenger in the hospital for a month, he wasnt drunk or high. He claimed his gas pedal got stuck. Can't you hit the brakes shift to neutral or turn the engine off?

At this point and time it is unlikely the cable will get stuck , The cable is in closed in plastic and unless you have hit something to impair the cable I don't think it will get stuck.hope this helps.

I think the chances are extremely rare. It was just negligence on the driver's part. For one thing, practically every car on the market can slow down more quickly than it can speed up, so stomping on the brakes, or even using the e-brake, could have likely stopped the vehicle.

Not common, but possible.
Had it happen to me once. In a 1976 Volare wagon.
I did all 3. Smoked the brakes, then hit the key and the trans lever. All that smoke was a sight to see.

It's rare for that to happen however it can., In order to turn off your car it has to be in park, you can put it in neutral and pull up the emergency brake it will be a quick stop so have your seat belt on.

It can and does happen. Usually with enough time to react and the tips you gave are good. Sounds like sudden confussion on the drivers part and there was no time to react.
