I was reading the following story:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070909/ap_on_fe_st/odd_salty_burger

To me, this seems a little overboard. The woman is charged and has to post $1,000 for bail. Then they send the burger patty into the crime lab for examination. Doesn't this seem like a waste of money for the crime lab examination. And doesn't it seem like the officer is picking on the worker? If the burger tasted that salty, wouldn't most people take it back to the counter for a new burger or refund?

I'm just wondering what others think, especially from other people who are judges, cops or lawyers.

Thanks!

Someone seems to have gone a bit overboard. A simple complaint would have sufficed. The meat should probably have been thrown out, but that is the responsibilty of the manager, not the cook.

Blatantly wrong.
Ironically, the officer was probably thinking about a potential lawsuit windfall, and knows a criminal charge, and a signed statement would be of help. Now the police department is looking at an equally serious false inprisonment suit.
Sadly, the manager will be fired for not following McDonalds policy, which would have required them to toss the meat.
The only problem with this entire story, is they say it was hamburger meat. All McDonalds hamburgers come pre processed as patties.

Looks like Union City, Ga. holds the minimum wage burger flippers to a higher standard.

obviously this cop is looking to put a little extra money in his pocket. if there's any justice in this country at all he'll be fired from his job then he'll find himself on the wrong end of a lawsuit and end up flipping burgers at mcdonalds when all is said and done.

of direction they do, its the elementary fact interior the human condition that ability has a tendency to deprave and persons are of course evil. Authority=ability. leads to corruption. for this reason police officers=corruption. I cant have self belief your even asking this. Its person-friendly philosophy.

Everybody needs to take a break and let go of the tree, Hippies. It just happens that he is a police officer, and he KNOWS it's illegal to give someone food that could make them sick.

The woman spilled salt on the burger, fair and square, and KNEW about it and ADMITTED it she was in the wrong, idiot STILL gave the burger to him, rather than cook up another one. thats how it goes, stop trying to lay it down on Whitey the police officer, because that is ridiculous.
DARN POLICE Demanding burgers that hold up to FDA policies. that is RIDICULOUS Down with police anarchy all the way!...stupid freaking hippies. I hope you get arrested for Stupid.

I think the cop was in sugar shock from eating too many boxes of powered donuts in one sitting! Has he been suspended yet, are they still paying the idiot? Why hasn't the DA's office thrown out this case, and told the police chief never to send one like it to him again?

He may have thought it was more than salt. Many common chemicals that are considered poisons are salts.

Unfortunately there are those that hate cops for one reason or another and think this is a way to pay them back. It is called tampering with food.

The cop is a thug......the story should be about the cop being a thug, not about the girl spending the night in jail.

I'd hate to get pulled over by that over zealot law enforcer if I was doing 27 in a 25

Peace

Jim
