Check here a very effective sciatica natural treatment http://cure-sciatica.info
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

Maybe but doesn.t get at the cause. I am 67 and have had low back problems since I have been 16, I have tried just about everything.. Recently I discovered something that really seems to work well. It's a little difficult to do but the result is similar to what a chiropractor does for you. Lay on your left side at the very left most edge of the bed. Your left leg should be stretched out as straight as it will go. Now put your right leg straight up reaching for the ceiling and slowly lower it to the floor so that your outstretched right leg is perpendicular to the rest of your body which should be in a straight line with the edge of the bed.. The idea here is to stretch your low back muscles. Once your practice this for a while you will want to try to position your shoulder more flat with the bed which puts more of a twist on your entire spine. Go slow at first and don't do anything fast or jerky. Of course you can do the other side too.

Your treatment plan will vary depending on the cause of your sciatica and how comfortable you are with the treatment options. Work with your doctor to develop a plan that is right for you.
With that being said, the majority of sciatica patients respond well to non-surgical forms of treatment, and few patients need spine surgery. Non-surgical treatments include:
1) Medications such as Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and analgesics help reduce swelling while relieving pain. (aspirin, ibuprofen, and prescription-strength drugs like Celebrex). You may also be prescribed muscle relaxants or other stronger pain medications.
2) Epidural steroid injections (ESIs) which place corticosteroid medicine near spinal nerve roots. Corticosteroid injections can reduce nerve inflammation and pain for months or longer, but ESIs are not effective for all patients. If they do not relieve pain after two injections the odds are slim that they will work for you.
3) Physical Therapy. Physical therapy includes passive treatments such as cold or heat, deep tissue massage, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound. These treatments help prepare you for therapeutic exercise—the active part of physical therapy. In addition, you learn how to correct your posture, incorporate ergonomic principles in daily activities, and become flexible and strong.
4) Chiropractic. Chiropractors offer non-invasive and drug-free therapies to treat sciatica. Your treatment plan may include cold therapies, ultrasound, TENS, and spinal manipulation (adjustments).
5) Alternative Therapies. Although not always scientifically validated, some patients experience relief from sciatica through acupuncture, acupressure, yoga, and biofeedback.
Keep in mind, however, yoga positions and movements that involve forward folds and twisting could make sciatica or worse.
If you need surgery, I suggest you try the following link for information on surgical treatments of sciatica. http://www.spineuniverse.com/displayarticle.php/article4129.html
If it was me, I would try a combination of the above for 6-8 weeks before considering surgery.

I just had a second series of shots into L5 S1 which is pinching the nerve. The second help a bit...but I still use naprosyen and a 1/2 of vicoden when it really flares up. My doctor told me...unless they come out with a time machine...this is with me for life. I know how you feel. Have not been able to wear a heel for more than an hour since 2001:(

NSAID's like paracetamol and ibuprofen for the pain, keep the affected leg knee up. A fat pillow under the knee will help in bed. But if it's really bad and long lasting you might have a disc problem, and you'll need a specialist doctor, and maybe surgery.

My husband recently had this and it was so painful for him. He had to take lots of pain killers, together with using a bag of frozen peas on his back to reduce the inflammation and then he had to visit a physiotherapist about 6 times. It eventually went away, but took a good 4 - 6 weeks.

Acupuncture with a master acupuncturist; (otherwise result will be zero).
There is no medicine for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, WORRY, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation;
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 90% success in treating all pains confirms it.
