Sounds like they are discriminating against females. Odd that the feminist groups haven't campaigned to demand equal registration rights for women. Oh wait...maybe that's only if it's to their benefit, so not truly equal after all.

I doubt it will be reinstated. So many americans dislike the draft, that I doubt it would ever be brought back. I felt the same way when I turned 18 and registered for selective service.
But believe me, your selective service number is the most useless number you'll ever get. Your chances of getting drafted decrease as you get older. I worried about the same thing cuz I registered in 2002.
I also felt it was BS that females are exempt. I wanted to get a sex change even. But I felt better knowing that it was like a lottery number. Chances are very slim even during a draft.
And I doubt there will be no draft cuz Bush promised no draft. And If Mike Gravel becomes president, there will definitely be no draft.

The likelihood of a draft being reinstated is very very small. The registration provess is actually even on the way out. No one has been fined or imprisoned for failing to register in over twenty years. If you want to vote, get a federally insured student or other loan, or work in any industry that is supported by fedral money, you do need to be registered. You needn't be hurrying off to Canada right away. By the way, you will soon need a passport to go to either Mexico or Canada and that will not be easily gotten if you are not registered either.

No. The draft law is quite old, and it's hardly ever used. Last I remember was about 1974. They just want the option IN CASE there's a major war. But a volunteer force is far preferable to a drafted one. The only people I know of who are salivating at the prospect are Liberals who want a weapon to hit Conservatives over the head with.
I don't see it happening as long as we can keep Dems out of office.

The DRAFT if reinstated elects canidates to serve in the US Army basic infantry. Women are exempt as currently the United States does not allow women to serve in combat. So women are excluded from the draft. Don't worry the draft is not going to happen. It would spell political death for whoever did it.

Yep, and the first people to be drafted are those loud mouth, in your face anti war jerks and of course anyone in the Fred Phelps family who is eligible. And it's because of wars that you are able to state anything want freely here, like how you have no backbone. Women are only excempt because the draft is for front line combat only and women aren't allowed, supposedly in combat.

As a Canadian that has already served I can almost say I hope there is a draft because then people may make conscience decisions about wars. The Iraq War should be over and bring the troops home.

NO! The Republicans don't want it. The military doesn't want it. And the Democrats don't really want it either but they use it as a scare tactic. When the idea was introduced while the Republicans controlled Congress is got no Republican support and very little Democrat support.

Sign up and try not to worry. it will take an act of congress to re-instated the draft. It wont pass in a democratic controlled legislature.
