It took me about 2 seconds to decide that I didn't like it. I don't like the way it feels, I don't like the balance. Have said that, I have shot one. My friend owns one that he absolutely loves. He insisted that I shoot his. As a matter of fact he insists everyone shoots his. He teaches a CCL class and tries to talk everyone who takes the class into trying out his P345. His weapon has probably had 5000 rounds put through it with nary a hitch nor glitch.

Ruger P345 Magazine

Yes. Bill Ruger is a traitor to gun owners and the author of the high capacity magazine ban legislation. Read the link below.

I found the P345 to be a little uncomfortable. The slimmed down profile width would logically demand better grips, but they feel like a Ruger Mark grips, which are not made for the .45. A friend who has smaller hands loved the grips, so you really need to fit for what feels good. Maybe with larger rubber it would be acceptable.

We put a few boxes through one with no issues, ball and jhp ammo. Did not try any hot .45.

At least it's not as big and fat as the P90. The slide looks funny, too big like it's top heavy. That seems to be a trend though, doesn't it?

Ruger has made a lot of improvements to their semi auto duty caliber pistols since I got the original P89 years ago, but they still have some shortcomings, IMO. Still, it's a good value and you could do a lot worse.

DO NOT read too much into most gun magazines reviews....if you notice, they say everything is GREAT. It's because their magazine relies on advertising from the gun makers, so basically the writers are hos to the gun companies.

The P345 has what's called a magazine disconnect. This means that if there is no magazine in the gun that it will not and cannot fire, even if there is a round in the chamber. Basically even if there is a bullet in the gun, from the time you eject your magazine, until the time you insert the second magazine you are a sitting duck. Others will argue that this is safer than the traditional pistol which can fire if there is a round in the chamber (barrel) with or without the magazine. Personally it is the user who dictates how safe the handgun is being handled at any given time. I refuse to buy any gun that has a magazine disconnect, I want to know that the weapon will fire regardless of what stage in a reload I am in. Also the P345 has a lack of supporting hardware. Very few companies make holsters for the P345 because until a military unit adopts the weapon (which no one will) it will be harder to buy accessories for it. Buy a weapon that will stand the test of time, or will still be in production 20 years from now. Odds are that Ruger won't even be making the gun in 15 years, so how will you buy more magazines for it?
Good luck

I would ratrher have my old P-90 stainless back that I had back in '95-'96 than that "new" marketing experiment. The P-90 was capable of 2"-3" groups at 25yds, was rugged and simple, and despite its topheaviness it handled well. I was too picky on triggers back then and hated the "hitch" at the end of all those SA-mode squeezes. Stupid me. Get a P-90 before they quit making them. If you bought the P345, trade the thing in and never look back. Ruger polymer sucks. Three guns from Ruger to stay away from are the MKIII, P345, and P95. Wastes of money.

Special note: I do not like mag safety designs either, but I will overlook it on an FN-Browning Highpower. You have to on that gem.

As a Gunshop Owner-Dealer, I put more weight on my own assessment of a gun rather than whats written about it in magazines as the sole deciding factor. After all..when have you read a really bad review of a name brand firearm that didn't sing praises to it's qualities....The P345 is a decent gun,buy anyones standards, but after having a chance to handle and shoot one it would not be one i pick for myself.
I found it to be top heavy, and a bit "clunky "and awkward to shoot comfortably...I have always been a Ruger fan (I own several Ruger pistols & rifles) but despite the bad politic's involved, this pistol is just not the quality gun like the ones prior made by Ruger...Simple...
If I were you I would try my best to try one if possible before you buy one. I think you will immediately see what I'm talking about, first hand

It's accurate, durable, and dependable. I've never had a malfunction after 500 rounds of various ammo types. The only thing I do not like about is the magazine disconnect safety. It's not a reason to pass the gun up, I just don't like lawyers dictating how we make our guns here in America. All-in-all, the P345 is a great gun. It's had huge sells since introduced and has won numerous awards.

I don't own this model but i do own a P95DC, SP101 and a Security Six and all are great weapons never had a problem with any of these weapons and the P95DC has never jammed or miss fed in over 1000 rounds. All the reviews I have seen on the P345 have been totally positive.

I have to agree. the grip on that one felt different to me as well. And it is a tad top heavy. Though i did notice as far as accuracy is concerned that it is much better in that arena(possibly due to the weight difference. So overall in my personal opinion of a scale between 1 and 10, i would give it a 6. Not a bad one, but it wouldn't be my first choice, and i like Rugers.
