Each has its unique responsibility and functions. With out one the other cant exist. I feel this question is irrelevant to religion. It can be discussed only in the materialistic point of view.

Iam a Hindu and i can assure that in our religion, women are given equal respect as men. in some cults such as Shaktham, women are even superior.

I can only say in Hindu religion ,woman is given utmost respect and a never looked inferior to man.

We have Goddess Laxshmi,Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Parvati whom every Hindu worships.
