it has been about five days and even if i drank a lot of water and a lot of ice, the swelling has not gone down at all. to add, the piercing isn't long enough because the top circle is digging into my tongue, which means the circle is half in the tongue and half out, and not fully on top of the tongue. what do i do?

why? Salt water and take it off and let it close up. If not better, go to Doc.

They'll notice eventually unless you *never* speak in their presence. People usually notice mine within mintues of meeting me, which is why I always take it out for work (after 12 years of wearing one, the hole doesn't close up even after as long as a month). The swelling will take up to a week to subside, during which time you have to wear a barbell of an inch long or so, and it'll be patently obvious there's something up with your mouth with every word you utter. Regular rinsing with cold salt water or other antiseptic helps, as does taking an anti-inflammatory such as aspirin (always read the label). If you're going to do it, I suggest you'd be better off telling your parents. What are they going to do, pin you down and force it out?

I'd go back to the place where you got it pierced. When I got mine pierced, within the first few hours, the top 'ball' keep falling off. I went back. They replaced the entire piercing, free of charge.
I'd say you need a longer bar.
If the swelling is being caused by the pressure of the piercing being too tight, then the swelling will never go down.
My tongue was only swollen for 2 days. I used lots of peroxide gel, water and Listerine.

The best thing would be to go back to the piercer ASAP. If it is infected (your tngue might be a darkish colour?) dont take it out. Just go back to the piercer. When a piercing gets infected if you take it out, the infection can still be in your tongue. You should have a long enough bar to accomodate for the swelling?

Hope it helps ( and makes sense ).

Give it about 8 days and it will go.. everyone has this problem
buy some cotton buds and put a little bit of salt in a cup of warm water and dab it around the piercing.

It's not plesent but its important to keep it clean and it should take the swelling down.

Good Luck.

when you get pierced, they're supposed to put in a much longer bar, because of the swelling - if this isn't the case, you need to go back to your piercer and talk to them. the restrictive jewellery will add to the pressure on the new piercing, which can take up to 2 weeks to fully go down anyway. keep it clean by rinsing out with salt water, and suck on ice chips

The best thing is to go back to the person who did your peircing, When I had mine done (6 years ago) I think I remember my peircer telling me to come back and get a longer post if I needed. They should be able to switch that out for you. And as far as the swelling going down, I drank alot of frozen coke. Like constantly. They say its not the best because of the sugar. But it worked.

You can take the piercing out if you prefer, but you can also go to a different piercing studio and let them know your story and they'll change that barbell out for you so that you have room to swell.
