*The Buddhist concept of reincarnation is called "Rebirth of the Mindstream."
*The ultimate implication of The Buddha's teaching on kamma and rebirth is that human beings are the final masters of their own destiny. Through our unwholesome deeds, rooted in greed, hatred, and delusion, we create unwholesome kamma, the generative cause of bad rebirths, of future misery and bondage. Through our wholesome deeds, rooted in generosity, loving-kindness, gentleness, patience, compassion, and wisdom, we beautify our minds and thereby create kamma productive of a happy rebirth. By using wisdom to dig more deeply below the superficial face of things, we can uncover the subtle truths hidden by our preoccupation with appearances. Thereby we can uproot the binding defilements and win the peace of deliverance, the freedom beyond the cycle of kamma and its fruit.
*Metta to all.

Reincarnation does not add up literally. If all we are is recycled souls then why does the worlds population increase? Whether you believe in creation or evolution both agree that humans have not been around forever. Therefore humans came into existence at one time. This poses a serious problem for reincarnation. If souls are recycled then where do these new souls come from overtime? It all started with 1 or maybe even two humans, which in turn become 4, 8, 16, 1,000,000 etc...etc.. up until the 5 billion that inhabit the earth today. Where have the billions of new souls come from?
Another problem with reincarnation is that it is very unclear as to which part of a person is reincarnated? If you where once a woman now you are a man, what part of you is the same? What gets recycled? After all you have a different brain/mind, different genes, a different personality etc...etc.. Seems like two different people, so what is the same? Maybe they would say the soul. But what exactly is that? Reincarnation is a nonsensical proposition that cannot be taken seriously.

Reincarnation is the belief that the soul, upon death of the body, comes back to earth in another body or form. Different religious paths have different beliefs about reincarnation.
It is my understanding that the Buddhist religion believes that your karma during your current life affects your standing in your next life. Not all religions that believe in reincarnation also believe in karma although they may have some variation of karma in their belief system. For example the Wiccan religion has the rule of three and Christianity has the Golden Rule.

We see character traits that are similar in many related species in the world. The cat that is wild will have more trouble being litter trained as one that is domesticated, decendants of other human beings have similar character traits even when adopted. The theory of reincarnation is similar to these traits but with a supernatural basis. Science has yet to prove the existence of many superstitious beliefs, but their existence cannot be disproven (neither can the exhistence of any religion's god/s.) The theory of karma plays it's part in reincarnation by deciding your fate in the next life according to the deeds you have done. Karma in itself is more of a simple philosophy of do good and good will come, do bad and bad will come.
So the answer you are looking for is that Reincarnation cannot be proven or disproven according to scientific theory.

how do you expect other people to tell you what you believe. if you believe in reincarnation, then so be it, but so many different answers will come your way if you ask a question like this. the whole "is there such a thing" part, just lets everyone open to tell you what they believe. What's true for others could be untrue for you. you have to follow your own path, write your own story.

Some faiths believe that there is reincarnation. Yes, karma is often tied to it. If you do bad things in this life, you come back and figure out how to do better next time.
Like all religious beliefs, reincarnation is a matter of faith. So who knows if it really exists?

I think so. I believe in the soul going through a cycle of physical death and rebirth. When I die, I believe my soul will be reborn in to another human body after a period of reflection on the lessons of this life. New souls are born, and old ones die or move on. The age of your soul may determine how wise you seem in life. I believe that to break the cycle and leave the wheel, you have to pay all debts owed by you to other souls, and have all outstanding debts (by others) paid to your soul.
The main reason I believe this is due to a recurring dream. It recurred through mid and late teens in to my twenties. It has occurred less frequently as I've got older, but still occasionally recurs. The dream is in the first person, I see through the dream subject's eyes. There were three dreams that recurred, each focussing around the time of the person's death and events leading to it. When having the dream where the person died, I'd wake with a pain where the sword went in.

I believe personally that Karma is just a universal law of balance. As for your question on reincarnation, i believe that we, as souls, have many life lessons to learn before we can enter into a true union with the divine...the Buddhists call it enlightenment, i think.
Anyway, i think that we keep coming back until we learn all the lessons that the divine has for us to learn. Then and only then can we join and become part of the universal power of love that is most commonly referred to as "God"
I hope you find what it is you seek.
blessed be

reincarnation holds that souls repeatedly come to earth to experience all fascets of humanity and to perfect themselves. It's a learning process.
For instance, in one lifetime you may have been a cruel plantation owner who abused slaves. So the next life, you have to come back as a ghetto child in the south to experience the fruits of your actions a hundred years ago.
That would be Karma.
BUT, you don't have to continue to suffer for past mistakes. Once you consciously take charge of your own spirituality, karma releases its hold on you. Karma is not to punish souls, but gives them the opportunity to learn.

So many people have told my mum that my sister is an old soul, that she has been here before. That to me means reincarnation. De Ja Vue feels abit like that. Maybe there is such a thing.
