it is possible to get tattoos over stretch marks but please please please try to talk her out of getting a tribal tattoo!!! unless she has an ancestry with a strong history of tribal tattoos then why would she want to put something so meaningless to her on her body forever???? there are so many options for tattoos, especially on the back that i really do see it as a waste to get tribal. tribal tattoos and names are the two most commonly covered up tattoos, there is a reason for that.
if you need help finding a great artist in your area i'd be glad to help.
honestly, which of these tattoos do you find more attractive?

You can get a tattoo to cover up the stretch marks, but a color tattoo will give you the best result. A tribal tattoo will not be able to do the job properly because it is made up of solid black stripes with about 50% bare skin. The stretch marks at the bare skin will still be seen, and the black stripes will be uneven.

There shouldn't be any problem whatsoever in tattooing over stretch marks, and as long as it ain't too extreme (each to their own!), it is a decent way of covering up what you don't wish others to see. But I don't know if the colour of the tattoo ink will take as easily compared to skin that hasn't been "stretched". Also, if the marks are actually deeply wrinkled, it may be a bit difficult to achieve the uniform appearance of the tattoo. Just consult with a reputable tattooist, and he'll give you the lowdown on the pro's and cons. Good luck.

It is possible but the ink isn't going to take to the stretch marks as it would to the rest of the skin. Actually Some tattoo artists won't tattoo over stretch marks, so you have to ask around!!!
