instead putting that $ into our holiday fund? do you think it's destroying the romantic side of relationship? the guy will take it for granted and wont make effort?

She seems more practical than most women to me.

There's little point to buying her something she doesn't want or will wear for a couple weeks and then take for granted.

Listen to her when she says something like "I really like this...or doing that would be cool!"

Or she may simply have the impression that money is kind of tight, or she'd rather spend a bunch of money on a longer experience than 1 particular gift or trinket.

Putting the money into a holiday fund would seem like a good idea. If the girl in question doesn't want her boyfriend to send a lot of money on a birthday gift, then it means that she is low maintainance.

As for destrying the romantic side of the relationship, it shouldn't as long as the small, inexpensive gift came straight from the heart. There are other things one can do for her birthday. Bake a cake. Send flowers. Maybe cook a nice dinner and a card should do quite nicely.

Hello
I asked my BF the same thing. Not to spend $ on me for my bday. I don't think it really has a big affect on our relationship because he says the same thing. I know it's a way of showing that we care for each other but we are not in to material possessions. And we both understand that, so our relationship is as good as ever.

I’ll tell you dead straight that everytime a girl says that, she’s just saying it in a ‘nice way’. sorta like when your grandma gives you some money…. you’d say “no, it’s ok nana.. it’s your money!” you wouldn’t go “yay! ok!” lol. even some of my guy friends are like that when I ask them what they want for their bday. instead of not getting her anything, get her something she has her eye on for a while (you been shopping with her?) if not ask her mom or her sibling. or trust your judgement skill! surprise her even she said you don’t have to do much for her. her little voice inside of her is screaming “I wonder what he’ll get me!”

But if you guys are saving up for something together, still get her a little sweet something with a note of sweet nothings on how much she means to you * :)

No!! She is trying to be responsible and respectful to your pockets. Appreciate girls like us, we are not the money hungry heffas that walk the face of the earth.

Our FAMILY holidays are more important, especially if you'll have kids.

It's a trick!!! All women want something for their birthday's from their boyfriends. Regardless of what they say, they always want something.
