I respect that other countries do things differently and that in the UK the police often get things wrong, but I feel that the Portugese Police give the impression of being so incompetent: For example they did not preserve the scene of crime, they missed vital clues. What do you think the "new developments" they say they are about to release will be?

I think the the Portuguese Police started the inquiry as would the UK police and made some progress - then the McCanns started 'bullying' the police with there out bursts of 'innocents' and the UK media latched on to it - and then the Portuguese Police 'backed off' (big mistake) not wanting to cause an incident between them and the UK. The Portugese Police are not stupid - and there inquiry found that the McCanns did have someting to answer to - and held them for a time under there rules (I've forgotton the word they used) and the McCanns with the help of the UK media tried to make the Portugese Police look silly - thats why the police 'backed off' and let them go. They and the media would never have been allowed to 'bully' the police in the UK with a case such as this. To many times in the past people have 'protested there innocents' and been found guilty (appearing on TV and acting all upset) and later on have been convicted of that crime. If the Portuguese Police had not caved in - and held them for longer giving them more time to carry on there inquiry - we may have seen a very diffiernt result to this very sad story. Are they involved ? - who knows - its seems to be all to late now with any evidience they had maybe of no use now. The public dislike toward them both is because 'they allowed' all this to happen - by putting there own 'fun 1st' and not looking after the children properly. In the end the police were just glad to see the back of them and let them go. As I've said on other postings on this subject - there's something wrong about this case - it just does'nt add up at all.

It is puzzling isn't it? It would be wonderful if the little girl
was found alive. It seems unlikely tho.
It is hard to say about a situation like this, as to who is incompetent or not. When one doesn't have all of the facts then we can't really say. Maybe, I hope when all of the pieces
are put together the truth will be known. This was a good question.

I agree with you, if they had maybe done their job properly with regards to the forensics then maybe little Madeleine would have been found by now, if not found they would certainly be further on in the case.

I don't know what the 'new developments' will be, it would be useless to speculate as to what they are too. I just hope they are sufficient enough to find Madeleine either way.

Incompetent to the nth degree, why did they not ask for for the help of the much more experienced British Forensic police who could perhaps have solved this case one way or another by now.

Very, very competently, the P.J. have a reputation for taking their time in building a case, this is why they win so many convictions, Beware Mr. and Mrs. McCann !

I would not question the portuguese police for one minute. It is not true to assume that foreign police forces are inferior to the British.

They will do their job a s they see fit.
It`s pointless to speculate on the new developments before they are revealed.

However I continue to say innocent until proven guilty.

Without knowing the full facts, which no one on Yahoo Answers does, you cannot reach an informed conclusion to that question.

Merely your own subjective opinion based on sanitised press releases and media hype.

I don't think they have done a good job either. I think they are accusing the parents now just to get the case off of their hands.
