We have had several deist presidents, who usually were church goers also. Many people (evangelicals and fundamentalists are the largest group) also get uptight about being a Christian and also a humanist, but it is clear that Jesus had STRONG humanist beliefs.
Simply, they get an idea about humanism or deism and won't entertain that they could be wrong.
I can't see how to be a Christian and not value human worth. I also think most people have a lot of deistic ideas. For instance, few really believe there are miracles today.
I am a modified Deist, in that I think God doesn't deal with everything, but I do think he answers prayer, I just think he intened for some things to be left alone by Him and let us do those things to see how we do. I am also a humanist and also Christian, and a minister.
Deism is not even close to Atheism.

There is nothing wrong about deism. It is very far from atheist. because atheist do not believe in God and do not know how to respect the God of the Christian, Yet they have no God but the monkeys.
deism
de·ism [dï¼ Ã¬zzÉm]
noun
rational belief in God: a belief in God based on reason rather than revelation and involving the view that God has set the universe in motion but does not interfere with how it runs.
Deism was especially influential in the 17th and 18th centuries.

It is close to atheism. There is little difference between the two, functionally speaking. An uninvolved god is pretty much the same as no god at all.
It's not something bad, but it isn't an organized religion, so many religious people don't really understand it. And they don't accept it because it rejects the majorority view of God(s).

Deism is just another belief system. I don't see any proof for their set of beliefs, nor do I see it as the logical choice as so many claim it to be.
Atheism is not bad, it is just lacking belief in gods.

I think the founding fathers were far more intelligent than today's Christians, and that is why the majority chose that path.
Deism states there is a god and refers to that gad as "the creator". Today's Christians interpret that statement to mean a christian god when in fact it is a Deist term.

It was a bad idea at the time, and an even worse idea now.
They say that God's patience is not infinate, and that once a number of signs are given, and that number is not known, his patience will end.

I first think of an early form of atheism when I read it. I don't think that is bad though.
