You can, but on average, most people lose. Online there are a lot of people to mess up your gambling experience. A) sharks who are out there to take money from beginners, and B) jerks who will bet any hand because they have the money to waste, and their lucky draws will kill you! Still, if you play prudent and tight (limit) you can make money on good hands. If you want to play NL, play in tournaments. Those always seemed the best to me and the most like TV. NEVER let yourself get on tilt. Poker doesn't care if you had a bad beat. You'll get raked over the coals if you bet carelessly online.

On the surface the question sounds pretty dumb. After all the whole idea of gambling is that you bet money to win money.
But interestingly it is possible to make money without risking anything.
Take NLOP.com. They offer real poker for points, and if you win enough points they will give you prizes in cash.
On major sites like Full Tilt and Poker Stars you can win a free roll into a cash tournament, and then build it from there. Chris Ferguson has done this recently turning a buy in of $0 into $10,000. So it can be done if you look around for the right free rolls and web sites.
Of course, you are not Chris Ferguson, so don't expect to get super rich doing things this way.

If you don't want to pay any of your own money then you'll have to find a sponsor. Of course, a sponsor would expect you to be good and win money for him.

Sign up at PokerStars while using a sign up code. Then play enough hands to receive the bonus. When you get your bonus, withdraw the money you registered into the account and play with your bonus money. Another way is to play the freeroles and place high enough to win money.

If you're going to win something, you have to put up something as an ante. If it's not cash, it'll be something else of value. No ante = no bet = no game = no winnings.
