I have Photoshop Elements 2.0 which I use regularly. I'm thinking of buying the full (latest) version. What is the price and what are the benifits? Is it worth spending a lot of money on or are there only a few extra tools? WHAT are the extras, so I know if I will use them or not?

I have Windows 2000, not Mac, and I'm not a professional anything. I'm not even a photographer. I play around with photos and stuff like film posters for fun and I make banners for fanfiction as a hobby, for other people as well as myself. I just want to know what I can do on the full Photoshop I can't do on Elements, because I love to experiment. I would keep Elements anyway because of the tips etc. I'd also like to know the price of the full version (in pounds sterling, preferably).

I'm starting an Art GCSE which will probably use Photoshop. Would I be better off with the full version for that?

Photoshop Elements is a partial version of many of the key elements of PhotoshopCS-3, this Software is a Full Blown Professional Design an Editing Program used by upwards of 90% of all design companies.
There are several other elements incorperated in CS that Elements doesn't offer.
If you really want to get technical here Adobe used to offer a free program that they offered when purchasing any Scanner or Printer that is much more powerful than elements.
PhotoDeluxe.

If you are going to go ahead and purchase a program and plan on working with it to advance your photo editing skills than you might as well get photoshop and not elements. Elements lacks some tools and capabilities of the regular program. However, you don't necessarily need to purchase the most updated version of photoshop. Buy and older one and you may be able to save a bit of money. At work I use CS2. At home, I'm still using Version 7. They are a bit different but I don't have a problem accomplishing my desired effects. Photoshop is all about problem solving as you'll discover.

Photoshop has it all, much more then Elements. However you will lose the wizards and dumbed down interface. Photoshop is a professional application that has a bit of a learning curve on it.

If you need the extra power, don't mind some more manual work, and want to learn, then its a great program. But if Elements does all you need and you like the simple tools then save your money and stick with it.

Personally, I use Photoshop and won't touch Elements. I like having all power and control. Plus if you want to do something...anything...someone out there has written a Photoshop tutorial on it

I would have to ask how professional you are to require the extra features that are outside Elements. To be honest, unless you are a professional photographer, it is unlikely you will require them.

If you are going to make Photographer your profession then there might be other alternatives anyway. For example Aperture by Apple (should you indeed have an Apple Mac, it's not clear).

So my advise would be. If this is a home / semi-pro venture - Get Elements. If this is your fulltime job - Invest in the full Photoshop (and lots of extras no doubt)
