You should NEVER take in less than 1000 calories a day and it should be more like 1200 at a minimum... Your body needs at least a 1000 a day to function properly... I would starve at 900 a day... My personal trainer has me on a 1100 calorie diet and I can't get lower than 1250 a day... Eat healthy, listen to your body (it does know best) and stop looking at such strict numbers... Make sure you have plenty of fruit and veggies in your diet and you'll keep calories low while eating plenty... Make sure to also balance with meat, dairy, and some healthy carbs... A little bit of 'good' fats are needed too...

Good luck...

You DEFINITELY don't want to eat 900 calories a day. That's way too low. NEVER go below 1,400 calories a day.

Would you like an eating and exercise plan that actually works and doesn't require you to count calories? Try this:

1. You MUST exercise if you want to lose weight and keep it off, so do something every day, even if it’s just a 15-minute walk around the neighborhood. Don’t say you don’t have time for exercise; you have to MAKE time. Yes, it takes time and effort, but you’re worth it, right?

2. Walk as much as you want, but don’t do cardio for more than 40 minutes at a time. If you do, you risk burning muscle instead of fat.

3. If you do strength training, use light weights and do lots of repetitions. That’ll really help you “tone up.”

4. Your diet will make you or break you. You have probably learned bad eating habits over time (most people do). That’s not your fault, but now you have to deal with it. Make a commitment to yourself to unlearn those bad habits and re-learn better habits.

5. Eat breakfast every day within an hour of getting up. People who don’t are 450% more likely to be overweight.

6. Eat six small meals or snacks per day instead of three squares per day or one big meal per day. Your body expends energy digesting your food, so eating smaller portions more often keeps your metabolism running high because you’re constantly digesting food.

7. Avoid these as much as possible:

-- Trans fat (any type of partially or fully hydrogenated oil)
-- High fructose corn syrup (soft drinks are LOADED with it)
-- Fast food
-- Junk food
-- White sugar, white flour, white rice, white potatoes
-- The deadly C’s (cookies, cakes, candy, chips, cola)

8. Build your diet around these trim-body-friendly foods:

-- Nuts, any kind (almonds are best)
-- Beans/Legumes
-- Fresh vegetables (green is GREAT!!!)
-- Dairy products (as long as they’re low-fat or non-fat)
-- Eggs
-- Lean meats (fish and poultry top the list)
-- Olive oil
-- Whole grain breads/cereals/pasta
-- Fresh fruits (anything that ends in “berry” is a winner)
-- Tea (green tea or black pekoe tea)
-- Cold water or ice water (your body has to expend extra calories to heat it up)

9. Desserts and treats are the exception, not the rule. Having said that, however, (1) you can have a couple of pieces of chocolate every day – just don’t overdo, and (2) Allow yourself one “cheat meal” every week where you eat and drink whatever you want as long as you don’t gorge yourself. That’ll help keep you from feeling deprived and it’ll make it easier to stick with your new healthy eating plan.

Good luck!

900 calories is way too little. My doctor told me never to go below 1500 calories. A calorie count any lower than that puts your body into starvation mode and instead of losing weight, your metabolism slows down and it becomes more difficult to lose. Good luck to you. Losing weight has been an almost lifelong struggle for me.

900 cal is not enuff, move up to 1400 cal. In fact, it is better to decrease cal. by 10%, so that your body doesn't resist.

If you eat clean fish and chicken, with steamed veggies and only a little carbs, then it is hard to eat 1400 cal. But if you force yourself to have 6 small meals, you will lose weight, because your body goes into the reverse of starvation mode... And stops storing fat.

BTW, 900 cal. of ice cream will still make you fat !

I lost about 20 pounds a few years ago by eating 1200 or less calories daily, 10 or less fat grams daily, and 100 or less grams of sugar daily. It worked and I didn't starve, and I've kept most of it off for about 8 years now!!! Plus I walked 10 miles per week. Good luck!!!

calories diet its quite obsolete, check on book from Mr Montignac, this gus said that if u want to stop fat growing in your body you need to stop eating stuff what stress your pancrea as sugar, rice, potato, white bread, cooked carrots. U can have integral bread, pasta al dente and lots of fruits, veggies and all kinds of meat. Check the book he has a table to be guided.

900 calories a day is plain stupid. Your body will go into starvation mode and hold on to any fat it can.

Look, I think any kind of forced diet is a bad idea! Rather just eat what you usually do (if a bit healthier), just eat everything in moderation!
