mine are 5 and 2.5 so they don't know anything other than loud, louder and extremely loud!lol!
I get so tired of telling them to 'talk like a mouse' and my mother is always at me that the kids are too loud (when she visits or we visit her)
Short of sticking them in front of the idiot box and burning their brains, I just try to put up with it to a degree and make them shut their doors when they are playing together. Oh and I chase them outside when it gets too loud for me.
Do yours do the squealing thing too?... I hate when mine do that..lol!! drives me batty!
Why didn't god invent a volume switch when he created humans....?

I hate running and noise in the house, but sometimes I'll let them get rowdy inside.
Usually, I find that taking a break to go outside when they get too noisy is the best thing to do. They can run and be as loud as they want outdoors.
It tires them out, too, so they're just a tiny bit more quiet later.

The noise really bothers me too...My kiddos are 4 and 1 and they just get louder and louder to the point I think my head will explode and I can't put too thoughts together. I do tell them to quiet down. My son is so loud he permanently talks in a shout! UGH! I think outside is the perfect place for the loud time! IMO!

Yes, I do let them be loud but yeah you're right, the noise does get to me sometimes. We are lucky in that we live on a large property though, and they are outside playing most of the time, so they get to be loud outside. They are learning to be quiet while they are inside (heh...that's a phrase you'll hear often at my house..."Use your INSIDE voice please") but while they are outdoors I just let them go for it. They know to be quiet when they are asked, but while they are at home and outdoors they aren't bothering anyone so they can do what they like regards noise. We don't have any neighbors to be bothered by it.

Of course. Children need time and space to explore everything, including noise.
Pick a time when you think you'd be okay with some noise (after lunch so you are well feed, and maybe after a cup of coffee or something), grab some musical toys, pop in a upbeat CD, and let them bang and dance with you. Get it out of their systems, and I am sure they will be more quiet the rest of the day....and if not...atleast you had some fun..right?1

There are times when I am trying to concentrate on something and my kids (and their friends) get pretty wild. Usually I will ask them to go outside or take it to another floor of the house. The time to be loud is when you are a kid. I just don't want them wrestling at my feet when I am trying to write an article.

Did you ever hear the phrase growing up 'children should be seen, but not heard'? That is the way I was brought up. If my parents and other adults wanted to hear something from me, they would ask, if not we were to shut up, no noise, no fidgeting around, no poking, prodding, giggling or any other activity unless we were given leave to do so, which was almost as rare as hen's teeth. Otherwise we got the back of the hand or the belt when we got home.

Ok-I allow my kids to be total hooligans through out the day. And this way, when we go out their energy is spent and they are well behaved at restaurants and school and stores. They know the difference, they are 5 and 2 and will be loud and abrasive at home, which is where you want them to be and they are so good out in public, where it's important to be.

let them live! just make sure they are aware of correct times to be quiet - eg, at meal times, when you are on the phone, before bedtime and when anyone else in the house is sleeping or trying to work. if they know that they have to be quiet now, but at such and such a time they can be as noisy as they like! join in, put some music on and have fun with them!

We live in the country. If they want to whoop it up I send them outside and let them runaround and burn it off. Or if they are unable to go out then they can go to their room and shut the door so it will at least muffle it. It gets on my nerves too. Our biggest noisy, nerve getter is our 6 year old sings ALL the time. And she cant carry a tune in a bucket to use a term my mom woulda said lol.
