Try lowering the sides of the box, you can see if a couple of cups of litter on an old rummage sale baking sheet is better for the kitten. Some just have a hard time getting in and out of the box.
No strong smelling 'deodorant' type litter should be used, it stinks too bad for some cats.
You can also do a 'starter' box by putting a 1/2" layer of regular sandbox sand over the top of the litter. The texture usually draws any cat into using it for it's intended purpose.

Im just gonna give a load of suggestions that I have read about in the past:
Try changing the litter tray, their are loads of types out there eg... high walled, low walled, corner units, ones with covers.
Try changing the actual litter, some cats find wood pellets very uncomfortable, some dont like scented litter, maybe try sand, soil or various different brands of litter.
If its beside a noisy object such as a washing machine or in an area that people walk past regularly try moving it to a quiet room.
If your using any litter freshners stop, cuz cats don't like the smell.
If you have more than one cat make sure each has there own litter tray.
If none of these work go to the vets to make sure their isint a medical reason such as incontinency (dunno if thats spelt right).

My kitten did this at 3 months (she is now 6 months). All I did is when she poo-ed somewhere that wasn't her tray, I picked it up (wearing gloves and holding kitchen roll, obviously!) and put it in her tray. She learnt very quickly that was her place to go to the loo. In fact I only had to do this once and she has used the tray ever since.
My kitten isn't fussy about the type of litter but she likes her tray to be clean!

undesirable information...that's not possibly some thing you are able to practice cats for 2 motives... First, the act of applying a clutter tray is one that the mummy teaches before the kittens pass away her. If she substitute into along with her mom for the 1st 8 weeks, then she might have picked up whichever approach the mummy had - if the mummy went exterior then you definately could be grateful your cat has even have been given as far as applying the tray. the 2nd reason is - your kitten could be attempting to tutor that she thinks she is dominant on your place. families with assorted cats have a difficulty using fact the main dominant cat makes use of the clutter tray as a fashion of showing the others he's in can charge. while they use the tray, they 'pass' as on the component of the suitable as they are in a position to, and in user-friendly terms provide it a skinny layer of conceal. This leads to their scent being the overwhelming one, so different cats applying the tray understand who's boss. in case you reside in a multi-cat better half and babies I advise making an investment in yet another tray - this might motivate the cats to take possession of a tray each, so the kitten would possibly no longer attempt to be so dominant. If that's not the case, then this could be a prepare you're caught with. you're able to purchase a powder which would be sprinkled into the clutter to decrease scent, so that's not all undesirable.

When I first got my cat I used wood pulp litter because it wouldn't be so rough on her delicate paws and if she poos any where other than the tray just put it in the tray so that she knows that that is her toilet because it smells of her. And when you want her to go to the toilet outside just put the litter tray outside at first then start putting the soiled litter in a part of the garden that it is ok for her to use

When she has an accident elsewhere wipe it up and put wet tissue in the tray or smear soiled area on the litter tray. That way she will associate it with a place to go. Also try placing her / him in the litter tray shortly after she / he eats.

a 3 month old kitten still has a small attention span, meaning sometimes they will get so caught up in playing and then suddenly have to go. doesnt matter where they are. try keeping kitten in a smaller room with food, water, and litter box until she gets the hang of it.

You should scoop the poo out everyday and probably clean it out evry other day, don't use bleach to clean it as they don't like the smell. My youngest cat wouldn't use the litter tray as it had a large lip round the edge to stop them flicking the litter out, once we removed it he used it again. Also, try changing the litter.

cats dont like being watched,or felt like they are watched.Put the tray somewhere secluded. Also, its quite normal for cats to use sand or earth...try getting hold of some of that coarse sand that chinchillas bathe in,your local pet shop should be able to get you some.you can also buy trays with covers on...like a little house?that could help. Also,if you can catch her in the act of tiddling, grab her and pop her straight into the tray.no verbal commands or anything, they dont do vocal association. But remember, your kitten is like a little child.Dont keep altering things and pandering to it ior it wil get spoilt and they do like to see their owners at their beck and call it amuses themTheyre all criminal geniuses after all,all out to take over the world.

I had the same problem with my cat. She did "go" in the same area all of the time, so I moved the litter box there with a lot of newspapers under it. Once she got used to using the box, I moved it away to the location I wanted it and put her in in. She caught on quickly. You might try that.
