papa G: you contradicted yourself by saying nobody has the right to persecute anyone and then you went right ahead and said deeply hateful things about homosexuals.

casey P: celibacy unless because of infirmity is the most unnatural state for anyone to live in, so cold and without physical expression of love that everyone else enjoys and values so highly.

kay716: you not only say you know there is a God for sure but that you actually know his likes and dislikes...I doubt that very much and until you have solid evidence for your beliefs it is a little previous to spread hatred of homosexuals by calling them immoral and sinners.

Dixie: Human sexual orientation whether gay or straight has no relevant association with people who are blind, anorexic, fat, ugly, suffering from cancer, racist, rapists, aids, murderers, serial killers, child molesters, alcoholics, starving, homeless, drug abusers or terrorists..so why do try to make one?

Yes they do. They just call persecution by different names. I think they call it 'love'.
As a lesbian on the receiving end, I call it:
Propaganda
Inciting hatred
Lies
Demonization
Many times (on this board also) well-meaning and not so well-meaning Christians and Muslims have equated me lovingly to:
An animal
A thief
A murderer
A rapist
A paedophile
The list goes on.
They spend enormous energy in promoting propaganda about me in order to demonize who I am just on account of my sexuality.
Here is a comparison of religious anti-homosexual propaganda and WWII anti-Jewish propaganda:
http://www.hatecrime.org/subpages/hitler/hitler.html
Feel the love? When the religionists get spat at and hit for walking in the park, or murdered, beaten, shunned and reviled because other religious people have popularized them as social pariahs, then we can talk about it.
I am no 'sinner.' So I ask Christians and Muslims to stop spreading lies about me, and stop equating my sexual orientation with criminality.

You no doubtfully have some good and bad answers here, but to me, most did not answer your question. (some did). I can only tell you my opinion, and we ALL seem to have one !! As with so MANY beliefs from the Bible and /or God's word ,come with living and learning and experiences down life's road.
I saw a hermaphrodite in the nursing home where my precious Daddy resided for a short while. I helped change his/her diaper. He was more masculine so I (as his family did) will refer to him as "him" through out this answer. In Ecclesiastes there is the chapter about "Nothing new under the sun"! Once I saw this precious young man's drawn & withered, brain dead, vegatative body, I Fully believe that since God indeed "allows" a person to be born with BOTH sexes then WHY is it sssooooo impossible to believe a person could be born with sexes that ! APPEAR! different than ours, man or woman??? WHAT determines what YOU are ? When you look at a person and see feminine attrabutes, you say "That is a WOMAN.". Or you if you see a masculine looking person you say "That is a MAN." If one person is in bed with a homosexual/lesbion (and they were BORN feeling that way), they are indeed a man and a woman ! IF we ALL had our genetic DNA stamped on our foreheads (X or XY and a few xyy!) like the poor people, homosexual/lesbian, blind, anorexia, fat, ugly, Or God forbid, cancer, reseism, rapests, aids, murderers, sreiel killers child molesters, alcholics, starving, homeless, drug abusers and the ever present TERRORISTS,and the many, many, many other things we persecute each other for, I have Faith that there would be LESS judgeing with more Praying, for each other! (I did not say that we have to condone some of these behavio, Thank you for reminding me NOT to judge ANYONE today !!! (or forever,) But since I'm human..... These Bible verses of old still STANDS TRUE !!! "YOU WHO ARE WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE!" and "When you have done unto the least of these, you have done unto ME!!!" We are not THE JUDGE. That's GOD's JOB! (thank goodness). If we put as much time into LIVING and LEARNING God's word, as we do debating it, we would be much happier people.
And, no, I do not think this long answer is debating. I think "Where two or more are gathered in My Name, There shall I also be!".(saith the Lord)
Everyone has a right to there own opinion. This just happens to be mine.:)
God Bless Us One and ALL!!! Dixie
Thank you (and others on "Answers") for your patience with this long response.

I'm a Christian. Probably not the best way to start my answer off but if you'll continue to read you'll understand why I did. No I don't think it does. In fact I was taught to hate the sin and LOVE the sinner. I have gay friends. Whenever some body ask me my opinion about gays I say oh you mean happy people and walk away ( the original meaning of gay is happy). Yes it's a sin, but who is sinless. The only one who has any right to throw stones is God, yet the thing is he doesn't want to. He loves and cares about the whole world from liars th murders. He wants to have a relationship with everyone. I've meant a few guy christain and you no what they are some of the kindness loving beings on earth. They have decided that they were going to be single for the rest of there life, but my point is that it doesn't matter who you are GOD is still very in LOVE with YOU!!!

sure. i've got been snubbed via the somewhat some business enterprise proprietors interior the small city the place I chosen to purchase the 2d residing house ever outfitted here. most of the absolutely everyone seems to be Catholic. the biggest construction on the city sits on the optimal hill & could be considered from a pair of miles away; this is the Catholic church, first one ever outfitted here. i've got been laid off for nebulous motives from 4 places of employment now, even nevertheless I paintings circles around most of the others there. This after unquestionably answering questions from co-workers approximately attending church, that's none of their business enterprise besides, and being invited to attend their church, which I in a well mannered way decline. human beings look to mistrust anybody who does not pretend to some form of religion. this is particularly much as though they could't fathom a functioning being that doesn't have faith in a greater acceptable potential of a few form. i could in all danger have been greater powerful off mendacity & asserting i'm a Hindu.

No one should be persecuted, for any reason. I haven't heard of many Christians who persecute homosexuals, besides Fred Phelps and his followers (but I also find it disgraceful that they call themselves "Christians" when they obviously don't practice Jesus' teachings of love).
God has directed us to preach the gospel to all mankind. Part of that gospel is what God condones and what He condemns. All we are stating is that God does not approve of homosexuality; that's the bottom line. If some people don't choose to follow that, then that's between each individual and God.
We have a right and calling to do so. But we do still love everyone, even if we disapprove of their actions. Anyone who calls Christians haters or homophobes are lying or sadly mistaken, because we don't hate anyone.
It goes without saying that all non-believers disagree with what Christians believe; they thing we're wrong to believe in God. Does that mean that they hate us? Perhaps some do. I believe that most Atheists are better than that, and they just don't agree with our beliefs.

Define persecution? Disagreeing with someones personal choices and lifestyle isn't persecution. By and large, homosexuals do well in American society and there are laws that prevent crimes toward and give the same rights to any person who might be targeted by prejudice or bigotry. So stop whining...you are just fine. Oh and historically, homosexuals have been part of the elite, upper echelons of society in many cultures all across Europe and Asia. The practice has always been accepted among the emperial royalty and the monarchy. Love in Christ, ~J~

Homosexuality isn't a sin or a choice but it is as normal as heterosexuality, people pick and choose from the bible the bits that suit their hatred but forget that God is love (so we are led to believe whilst they are promoting hatred and murder and other evils and then adding they are Christians). The homophobes will never see anything wrong with persecution if they are doing it but there's normally a few threads from people who wonder why Christians are so hated
Edit: Christians are homophobes if they are trying to deny gays fairness and talking about sin and other bigoted nonsense

I am Atheist and I have nothing against gay people I love them something other people should try, a little lovin' never hurt anybody. Love and Tolerance is a hard thing to find these days.

I love the answers that want to say yes, but don't want to be said to persecute anybody. So they dance around the idea that is OK for them to let people know they disagree with the other persons chosen life style. What ever it may be. But the bible persecutes hundreds of different choices in life style. From wearing two different fabrics at the same time to women actually saying what they think to their husband. How come the Christians don't stand up against all of it. Why did homosexuality become the one standard bearer of the religion?

No one has the right to persecute others.
Jesus died for everyone so that they could repent and gain everlasting life.
But the Scriptures offer no apologies, no concessions, no ambiguity; homosexual practices, adultery, fornication, are all repulsive in God’s sight. Accordingly, true Christians do not water down the Bible’s position on “disgraceful sexual appetites” merely to become more popular or more acceptable to modern culture. Nor do they agree with any movement dedicated to the promotion of homosexuality as a normal life-style.

No, persecution is not for me to inflict wether or not I agree with any type of behavior/lifestyle. My Christian faith leads me to treat people with love and kindness, just as Christ did. I also have the responsibility to tell others they are not living according to God's plan and are lost if they do not accept Christ, repent and stop living anyway they choose. Doing that is not persecution. This applys to any who haved sinned and that means "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
