The variation in age of earth for me comes during the 7 days of creation. Since the sun, etc. wasn't there when creation began, and that is how we earthly people measure a day, we don't know how long a "God" day might be. It could have taken what we think of as thousands of years and to God have been a day for certain things to be created. Could he have made it in the blink of an eye - of course.
