We can't afford the fancy stuff like frontline and revolution, and I've tried flea baths. Any suggestions?

Well if your cat is an indoor/outdoor you might have to flea treat your home.. .Don't panic it's NOT the end of the world... Petsmart has a product LIKE Frontline/Revolution and it's cheaper.... I use it for my dog but, they make it for cats... It's called ZODIAC and it's under $20 for a 4 month supply. I would also use the matching flea shampoo depending on how badly the infestation is.. A fleas live cycle is about 2 weeks so you'll have to be agressive and treat house/outside. If you have a canister/bagless vacuum get acouple of cheap flea collars and toss them in the cansiter/bag.. If you have a bag vac, get some extra bags.. Vacuum everyday and put the bag in a plastic bag in the freezer and throw away outside ! Also, regular baking soda/iodized salt is really good to put on your carpets. .The BS smothers the fleas/larve and the Salt will puncture the eggs ! Both are very cheap and available at the wholesale club for under $10. Just apply and leave on overnight.. Also it's NOT harmful to other pets/children... You may also want to purchase flea bombs and bomb your home/yard. You can get multipacks from Home Depot/Hardware store.. Usually it's $20 for 6-8 can.. Discharge them with all the bedrooms/bathrooms doors open and on multiple levels. I have a ranch w/ a basement 3 bedrooms 1 1/2 bath so I used 14 bombs in a two week span... Just remember to follow the label instructions and remove your pet for the afternoon.... Also, if you leave a light colored porcelin bowl with about 1/2 inch of water and a squirt of dishsoap in it out with a light shining it fleas are attracted to it and the soap makes them NOT able to jump out and they drown !!!... Also, if you don't want to use flea shampoo.. Dishsoap works too wash your pet and kills fleas just leave it on a few minutes..

The Fancy stuff can be gotten for $10 a dose at the vet, so you don't have to buy the four pack. Advantage works best. I've found it goes beyond the 4 weeks they say it does. In heavy flea weather it lasts a month and a half, so there's less doseing.

Call your vet, say you only need a single dose for an outdoor cat, and if they won't break up a packaged set, call another vet. Most of them will sell the individual doses without a problem.

Use Sevrin dust for yard and around foundations of your home.Get CAP STAR tablets from vet they start working immediately.Spray your home with a fine mist and leave for a couple of hours.I usr Orthro home defense. You really need to use a flea spray or liquid on your pet once you get rid of the fleas monthly.Flea collars can make sores and lose fur I never use them.Vaccuam everyday if you can.I have indoor outdoor cats works for me.

try putting bowls of water all around the house on the ground. I dont think a flea collar would work becuase he\she would just scratch it off.
