Pinguecula, plural: pingueculae.

Quite common in anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors, not just in tropical or sub-tropical countries.
(possibly now also in anyone with long term exposure to too-dry air fro air-conditioning units!)

Harmless, and rarely requiring (cosmetic) surgery, it needs to be distinguished from the rarer but still common condition of pterygium which can cause visual problems and require intervention.
