Good god do we need better manners? Absolutely not we simply need a reminder to be polite to one and other. In and attempt to create better manners once before political correctness was born. And we all know how that turned out. A simple mind your manners and wrap on the knuckles works just fine to remind someone of their P's and Q's. No need fix something that isn't broken. Or improve something that is fine just the way it is.

People need to be taught manners before they can have better manners and that is what appears to be missing. My family was taught how to be respectful and to respect others. Not a lot of that going on out there unfortunately.

We really need to get back to simple, basic common courtesy.
A positive step in that direction would be to quit laughing at the incredible rudeness and intrusiveness we see all around us today. Paparazzi style news reporting and obnoxious advertising are a great example of the lack of dignity and manners we tolerate these days. We shouldn't buy the products advertised this way or watch the trash on television that promotes this kind of stuff. Peoples' right to privacy is the most basic courtesy and because we find it entertaining to do so, we intrude on it all the time.

By and large yes they do. Respect is the one issue that is no longer being taught by parents or the school system. Children are being taught to be self-centered for the most part, thereby creating a whole generation of people who don't care. What is going to happen in a few more years when the next generation comes along and they have not been taught any respect. Having a whole society who does nothing but look out for number one is going to be disastrous. 68

It seems to be a majority of kids around now seem to have no respect for others so i would say yes to that.
I remember at school you always called the teacher "miss" or "sir" and you always said please and thankyou. now it seems "oi" is word of the year! and i dont often hear a please from kids who want something when they are in the shops with their parents!
I have also noticed that people inculding adults dont say thank you if you let them past you in a tight place etc or say thanks to a cashier. that seriously annoys me as i always make a point of saying thankyou.
if there is one thing i really get annoyed about its people with a lack of manners inc table manners which i think went out the window a long time ago!

Some people do - good manners are the oil which keeps the wheels of society turning smoothly, and in a crowded world they are more important than ever.

Absolutely, I wa at a wedding last weekend and people were chewing and talking with full mouths during the dinner. Its one of my pet hates.
Now dont get me wrong, I'm sure I have some things that irritate people that I dont realise I am doing but little things like chewing with your mouth open I think people need to make a more conscious effort... after all its the little things more than anything that people around you will notice more and its incredibly off putting

I believe everyone is aware of the basic manners, yet fail to use them. So it is less a matter of possessing the skills and knowledge of manners but more putting them into practise.
