Dr Willy Notcutt, James Paget Hospital Great Yarmouth There seems to be some sort of Puritanism about the high from cannabis. And you have to ask yourself why. Here is somebody whose life is miserable. It is a miserable life. They are commonly depressed. If the cannabis were just to make them a little bit happier, a little bit mellow, so that they can relax more, so that life becomes a bit pleasanter, who are you or I to deny them that? After all, we widely use anti-depressants. We use drugs like Prozac at the drop of a hat, and yet these are mood-altering, mood-enhancing drugs. Why should cannabis be any different?
Do you think he is correct?
I do, I don't see why we are so puritan about this plant?

Heroin and cannabis aren't really comparable,
Heroin users are nearly all Addicts, whereas people who smoke cannabis are nearly all recreational users or people seeking medicinal aid from using it.

Hello, ANS: The use & effects of hashish, cannabis, dope etc can vary ALOT form extremely mild & therefore the effects of the drug are subtle & gentle. Through to skunk (which I've never tried & have no desire to try as its so incredibly strong), skunk is a special high bred variety of cannabis & is known for its powerful highs which can & do produce hallucinations. **Also bear in mind how the drug is taken, OK! the popular or common method is to smoke the drug with normal tabbacco. But dope can be eaten raw, mixed into cakes hash brownies!!, can be made into a tea and drunk and so forth. **From my own experience the differences between cannabis & alcohol are stark. Alcohol on the whole tends to make people more outgoing, lively and then more out of control which often means more violence. Cannabis use tends on the whole to make people more thoughtful, less active, less violent (I never saw anyone being violent when taking cannabis?) more sleepy, more interested in looking & listening (such as to music) etc. **Cannabis use doesnt often if ever leave a hang over, and after a good nights sleep after cannabis one can get up and carry on with life quite happily without any nasty bad effects. Which cannot be said of Alcohol. **The experience anyone has with either Cannabis or Alcohol depends to a very large degree upon the state of mind or state of well being before taking the drug. If in a bad state to start with it might not have a plesant result but the opposite can apply though. IR

cannabis makes you more focused on your immediate desires, if being high, you can identify better what suits you ar not, this is assimilated as a counterproductive attitude
being smoking is negative, if you eat cannabis you will notice people around you accept it better
the community thing about people doing it is really not understood by other people, so there is a rejection, fear misunderstanding rejection, they just believe the people with that identity code are to be denied, in cannabis haters attitude there is a logic of gang, of preservation
it is just like people rating cannabis issues negatively to prevent from it, lower your sperm, decrease your productivity, set you uncontrollable for society
groups do not like the individual, watch the disney movie COUNTRYMAN for some clues about this
there is only grey economy about cannabis, so the culture about it even if existing for centuries is allways depreciated, the people value positively the sussess of tobacco because it generated huge amount of money, smokes are sexy because they bring money
if there was a tax and social care system logically raised around cannabis use, it would become more a non puritan ized issiue, as you know money vanished so called ethics or puritanism issues
the interesting thing is when people cannot deal with some pain or with apetite issues where cannabis is medically used (sclerosis for example) cannabis outfashioned as a comprehensive helper becomes natural
bring some people in holland before the situation becolmes more and more commercial and dirty there so that they can picture a non criminalized use of hash

Cannabis contains more carcinogens that tobacco. It's use can bring on mental illness like schizophrenia. It can alleviate the symptoms of multiple sclerosis and arthritis. If I had a choice of being ill and have symptoms alleviate if no other medication were available I might try it as I may have nothing to loose only the pain. If I wanted to get high for a buzz and risk having serious mental health problems for the rest of my life I'd avoid it. There are two side to the argument and not just people who trying to stop someones innocent fun. You may not see it as such fun when your life is an endless round of psychiatric interventions.

My dear I will tell you something .There is no yes and there is no "no" for this Question.I know that you and anyother depressed will feel better with cannabis. And i know that it is one of the most safe drugs one can take. But about the issue of high or low or no this is completely relative. You must know that it makes you better but for a short time however long untill you take again.Losing our 100 % alertness makes us make sins and go after our lusts in the religious view and make our life Disorganised and failure after failure depression will increase and be more compressive than other causes(these failures increases when we are nit alert enough to face life and enjoy it and fight).I also Know that cannabis is not highly addictive and you can give up easily. That is not the problem ,the main problem is depression.Try to fight depression by meeting a pshycotherapist as soon as possible and welcome back to life not the sleep that helps one get away from this monster(depression) and i am ready to be in touch for free when i am free.....................Dr sherif lanson Khalil of Egypt(002 010 148 3138)sherilanson@yahoo.com

Cannabis does not help depression it just numbs you from the real reason why you are depressed in the first place. If you have a chemical imbalance which can't really be fixed by exercise and daily outings then I believe that prescribed pills can help to restore the balance but all cannabis does is mess your head up even more by causing paranoia, anxiety, short term memory loss amongst other things.
I would recommend it for people who are in pain and don't suffer from any other mental illness.

It's far safer than Alcohol or Fags, No physical addiction. Personally I used to tell my crew, that I would rather them stay in their room and smoke a couple spliffs, than go out to bar and drink 10 beers. At least I would know they were going to show up READY for work, instead of dragging their as*es hung over.
Danelle: There is absolutely no comparison, between pot and Heroin or Meth, or Cocaine, or Ecstasy, or Speed, or Methadone, or any other class A drug. Plus I don't think we are taking about putting 10 year old kids on drugs, Oh wait, your kind do that with Riddalin, to balance their chemicals, save your BS for the dummies.

Because the plant is illegal. To use it without a doctors prescription is self medication. Its mainly used for cancer patients who suffer from extreme amounts of pain and nausea due to chemo therapy, not some dude who wants to sit on his couch and play video games. Anti depressants are prescribed as well. They are not illegal. An anti depressant may be better for the dude sitting on the couch playing video games, It may motivate him to get off his ***, move out from his parents basement and get a job. If you are going to argue about drugs making people happy then are you condoning heroine as well? That makes people very happy too. Should we just ignore the junkies and pushers because they are happy, and we dont want to stand in the way of their "happiness?" How about people in meth houses. Should we leave them alone too? Should we let them keep their kids in that type of environment so they can be "happy?" Im not trying to sound mean, but I truly dont believe that drugs create happiness. I use antidepressants to stabilize my brain chemicals. They DO NOT give me a high like marijuana does. Honestly I dont really care what one does in their own time, but to me there is no comparison between the 2.

I agree!
Especially for people that aren't just depressed and need pot for another reason. If you have severe chronic pain, AIDS, cancer, or anything like that, life generally tends to suck pretty hard. So a medication that can help with your medical needs AND make you feel pretty happy? How cool is that.
Not to say that I think you should have to have a painful medical condition to get it. Consider how dangerous modern anti-depressants can be : Prozac has documented side effects that are much worse than the side effects from pot. How is pot so dangerous in comparison to a drug thats made people kill themselves or other people?

Cannabis is known through scientific research to be dangerous to peoples health. It is also a gateway drug to more dangerous drugs.A lot of cannabis users put up messages on this site asking how they can stop this expensive & dangerous habit-you cant compare it to the drugs that doctors prescribe.I know not all of them are as safe as we are led to believe, but two wrongs dont make a right either.

There are medical uses for THC, but cannabis is illegal so it is not Puritanism to suggest not using it. If the physician suggest you use it outside of appropriate medical therapy, they would be violating the law and could lose their license.
If you want the law changed then seek political solutions. Do not criticize your physician for not support it's use.
