I love fax machines. Though email has made them less relevant, I love the ability to be able to have a document all printed and in my hand, and with a few pushes of some buttons, send an exact copy of that document, printed, so someone else can have it in their hands.

It's got the speed of an email, and almost the importance of a mailed letter.

When I get all fired up and want to write my elected representative, I always use a fax. They get bombarded by email and mostly ignore those I think. And a letter is too slow. But a fax is something tangible they'll have in their hands, and you know that at least some assistant will look at and maybe hand to someone who may address the issue.

no, dont like them... they are a waste of a phone line...

it is easier, clearer (sometimes difficult to read faxes) , faster (in some cases), more environment friendly (no wasted paper, or ink), and more economical to just email a PDF scan of a document. this way you can choose to print the document or not. There is no added expense of a phone line every month, there is less problem if/when the fax line or machine breaks, worst case scenario your internet is down, and you need to access the internet via dial up, or wifi, but your document is there waiting...

Ive been a phone tech for many years.. aside from a few "test" faxes that I have sent to test transmit/receive of a fax machine after repairing the line, i have only used fax maybe 4 times my whole life... give it to me in email, so i can take it with me, or open the file where ever I want, or where ever I happen to be...

I use a fax machine from time to time - about once a year. Occasionally you need to send documents to companies who don't use email. I came across a lawyer who would accept faxes but not emails because he believes (mistakenly) that faxes are harder to falsify than emails.
Also I send faxes to people like my electricity company for complaints and queries. Its customer services now uses a premium rate telephone, so I send them faxes - I don't have to go through the call centre's horrendous menu system, plus I think they take it more seriously than a phone call. It also costs them more to handle, so it's payback time for their premium rate junk. But I often use my laptop's modem to send these faxes rather than print it out and use the separate fax machine.
I also use a "virtual fax" - my ADSL company lets me send faxes from its web site and also gives me another phone number for incoming faxes, which are converted to PDF and sent to me by email. That way it doesn't tie up a phone line and I can pick them up when I am away. And it's free.

I love them! They're really tasty with a little milk and sugar!

Seriously, what's your question? FAX machines are a useful tool. What's not to like?
