I can't imagine that anyone would start such a rumor, unless they might profit from it. .So, who would most profit from it?

No, I don't need to brush their teeth, as they are very white and clean.

The Canidae spokesperson said the original email from the woman who tested the sample said the production dates of the two dog foods were July 6 and July 7. Canidae said they did not have any pet food with a production date of July 7 because it was on a Saturday after the July 4th weekend.

Yesterday, Canidae received a picture bearing the production codes on the tested bags of food to Canidae. The spokesperson said the production dates of the food tested were actually June dates instead of July dates as she originally said.

The Canidae spokesperson also said the tested sample is from Wyoming, and there is only one Canidae distributor in the state of Wyoming. He said the last shipment of Canidae to that Wyoming store was on May 29, so that means the lot codes that the store would carry would be in the mid-late May time frame and not in June or July.

He suspected the food sample was actually purchased in Colorado.

The Canidae spokerperson said no one has reported a pet getting sick f

Other dog food companies.. One of those on the recall list.. One that was on top and now has lost a whole lot of business due to their lack of quality control...

I suspect Purina.. They seem to be very sneaky and underhanded...

I have to agree with DP. I too think it was a rival pet food company. Purina comes to mind first.
The only other thing I can think of is a individual person looking for free vet care and or replacement of a dog that got sick and is now looking for a free ride.

I personally was alarmed but after reading several reports I decided to not jump the gun and wait to see what Canidae had to say. I have found them to be very responsible when it comes to their products and I think they would have pulled their products if anything was even slightly amiss..

I heard that too! I can't imagine, who would do that either. Scared me half to death, because that's what I feed my dogs. When I called Canidae, all they would tell me, was that it is a hoax, and that the food IS safe. They also said that the FBI is looking for the person that posted this hoax on the internet, and when found, will be thoroughly investigated, but they would not give me anymore information, because they said, it's still under investigation!

Iams
Purina
Pedigree
Eukanuba
Science Diet.....
A fired employee
Rivals in other good foods....

Whatever it was I firmly believe it was a hoax. Especially after the letter I read in a previous post. Canidae is sticking to their product like a quality manufacturer would. I like to switch foods every few months and my next planned switch is still Canidae....

The person who sent the sample to Epertox wrote this: http://www.itchmo.com/dog-owner-who-sent-in-mixed-dog-food-sample-to-expertox-responds-2694#more-2694

I'm very much concerned bec Canidae is what my dog eats now (as per your recommendation to someone who asked what dog food is best).

I guess other dog food companies could benefit from it. This is Canidae's latest response:

BTW chetco, I recall that you mentioned before that your dogs are tartar-free with Canidae. Do you brush their teeth?

Sorry I asked you this question here, but I value your opinion very highly. I try to brush my dog's teeth daily, but sometimes she tries to escape. I don't think she enjoys having her teeth brushed.

Thanks for your reply! =)

I agree with DP on the "who" part of the question. But I wouldn't post it because you never know who would sue for libel.
