The metaphorical or pantheistic God of the physicists is light years away from the interventionist, miracle wreaking, thought-reading, sin-punishing, prayer-answering God of the Bible, of priests, mullahs, and rabbis, and or ordinary language. Deliberately confusing the two is, in my opinion, an act intellectual high treason.

If by "we" you mean the global population, then yes, we need a traditional God. If "we," the global population, had the education, brain-power and depth of thought of these scientists, then no, we would not need a thought-reading, sin-punishing, prayer-answering God.

Most people today do not have the flexibility of mind to intellectually examine and ponder the existence or nature of God. Without a concrete figure whose duties are so simplistic as outlined in the Bible, there is a lot of fear and uncertainty, particularly when it comes to death. God serves a simple purpose to those who need it. Philosophers and scientists don't need it. The strangely funny but obvious thing is that the philosophers and scientists are pitied by the more simple minds because of a fabricated notion of eternal damnation to punish their disbelief.

Well, the wrong actions we perform bear punishment within themselves and we need not anyone else to aditionally punish us for that so maybe not a sin-punishing God.

But we do need an UPLIFTING God - that is One who sees the best in us even when we don't show it and loves us beyond our sins in such a way that we start loving ourselves in the same way and also give the same gift to everyone else.

What do you think?

Ron my dear by denying the existence of God or putting up a challenge to his authority, you are denying your own existence. You yourself are a part of God, can your nose, or eye or ear, or arm or feet or leg deny their existence? if they decide to revolt against an entity called Ron, who would look stupid your individual parts or you, just contemplate on this and your anger against God may subside. Ron you cannot be away from God, however may you try since you carry God within your own self, try to realize this and you will find a miracle happening to you without going to any church, temple or mosque or praying to any all powerful God that is outside your own self.

Dear Ron,
my God is an awesome creator, kind and forgiving, abundant in mercy. He hears my prayers, anticipates my needs, and always has an answer for me. He is fatherly and gracious.
He does not invade my thoughts, but is welcome to them.
He does not punish us for our sins, as He corrects our hearts and straightens our paths.
Miracles are a rare and precious gift.
try to overcome your own angry mood.

No, what we need is to experience unconditional love and forgiveness so that we can become whole and fully functioning again. Try to imagine life without worry, fear, doubt, confusion, jealousy, greed, guilt, or regret. Can you do it? Or does the unholy spirit have you convinced that it is not possible?

I agree with your sentiments and does anyone actually have the personal god or the illusion, like an invisible teddy bear to sleep with.

Well some people do need him apparently. I don't personally see any need for him though. Seems pretty ridiculous looking at it from my high horse.
