Religion is classified as a theory. It is not factual and has not been proven to be correct. It is fine to assume certain things in life are factual, but religion has never been shown to be correct. It is also fine to believe in something even if its existance hasn't been proven, but since religion is so far fetched and silly, why bother?

I know some of you feel that you need religion in your lives to continue to live, but that is all in your head. Just like nicotine. A cigarette smoker may feel that he needs cigarettes to go throughout the day, but in reality, it is all in his head. I guess you could say that religion is just a nasty addiction.

If they think that God, Jesus, Heaven, is a certain way and they can convince themselves of this then they will have no room for doubt and can convince others to follow their crap system. I see God, Jesus, and Heaven as ideas. My ideas change every now and then, but I'm not going to sit there like an idiot and assume that I know for sure what God, Jesus, and Heaven is like. These religious morons act like they've met God and been to Heaven.

Why would you separate the two? Theory and belief? You can come to conclusions about either of them the same way. Inductive or deductive reasoning. No, religion doesn't require any type of reasoning (haw haw... funny jokes... yeah yeah... whatever). Think about the theories you assume to be accurate. Do you put them to the test? Do you try them out? Do they hold up? My belief system does those things. It has held up to scrutiny so far. Is it flawless? No. But I believe God is. And I haven't seen anyone able to disprove Him so far, and the things I've seen, reasoned, rationalized, percieved, and experienced have all strengthened my belief.

1. Because religion does not meet the criteria for a scientific theory (i.e. it doesn't actually explain anything).
2. Because people actually do believe in it and tend to act on those beliefs (some more than others of course).

Whoa Tiger! That's why it's a belief and not a theory. People believe it is true like psychics, ghosts and horoscopes regardless of the evidence against it. Theories have facts attached to them. Like the Theory of Gravity, Atomic Theory, Theory of Aerodynamics, etc... We should never, ever, ever refer to religion in anyway as a theory.

They look at it as a belief because they have a need (a dependency) to believe, or were intensely indoctrinated (imprinted) when their minds were young and forming. Even common sense cannot penetrate these two things and debriefing would cause too much anxiety (by suppressing conflict) to allow converting their concept to a theory.

In Science, theory is as good as gold. You can take it to the bank.

"Religion has never been shown to be correct."

I am sorry that you've never had anyone love you enough to sit you down and explain it satisfactorily to you. You need love, not explanations. Love is self explanatory. If spoken correctly, it is truly a love story.

Not any one religion has enough to fully explain, or contain it.

Religions, myths, and tribal rituals all rose from our awareness of death. When people began to be aware that some day they're gonna die, no way avoiding it, and since they have no idea about what happens after death , they needed something to comfort them and put their minds at ease to keep living. To believe that after death, there is another life, heaven, eden, whatever promise of everlasting "afterlife".

Thanks.
Why try to convince your thought to religous people.
Your thought is so limited and short sighted.
We see things that you dont see and we hear things you dont hear.
My husbad was an atheist a real smart atheist, he was amazed to what I saw and heard and thought; There are a great gap among our same understanding; Atheists get no where, their brain stop them .
Unless you make a group of atheists, you will never be strong enough .

I think people do look at religion as nothing more then an idea, folklore, fairy tale....people do!

I believe in the risen Christ because I have faith and I believe. If my faith, belief and eternity as described in The Bible are non existence then that's OK. We will all die and so be it but I will know and those around me will know I've lived a life with high moral and ethical standings!

If my faith, belief and eternity are correct as mentioned in The Bible then..........eternity is a long time?

What if God is true?.......WHAT IF?
