The pain during the procedure isn't so bad - they shoot the breast full of novocain. She might want to take a valium beforehand.

For me, the worst part was not being able to shower until the puncture healed - and it took a few days.

When I had my biopsy they numbed me with a needle first. The only thing I felt was the pressure. It really wasn't all that painful. Make sure to take Tylenol or Aleve to reduce pain and swelling. There will be some bruising and discomfort. If the lump in the breast starts to deflate during the procedure then that is a good sign of a cystic mass which is fluid filled. Those are normally benign(non-cancerous).

On a scale of 1 to 10 about a 2.

The injection of local anasthetic beforehand stings.

During the procedure you only feel preasure.

Afterwards, it can be a little tender, I was given a frozen 50ml saline sachet wraped in a tissue to tuck in my bra for a few hours. By the time it melted and got warm, the pain was gone.
