My chemo cocktail never really made my legs hurt, but the lack of potassium did. All of my treatments have seriosly messed with my electrolytes. My legs would get so bad from potssium def I would cry. Of course, I was receiving IV stuff potassium to help.

This time around its my magnessium thats screwed up. And I have bad reactions to it (when they give me IV mag) and one of them is to make my legs hurt. I mean they have to run it over 4 hours compared to the 1 hour that most ppl can take it at.

So my first suggestion would be to have your blood checked for any defencies.

I was diagnosed with Acute Myelitic Leukemia over 10 years ago. At first I was given only a 30% chance for recovery, but was determined I would not accept those odds. There are millions, billions, of cells in the body and in comparasion, there are only a few of the cancer cells. I decided to mentally put all the billions of healthy cells to work fighting those few weak cancer cells. We won and here I am over ten years later totally free of those unhealthy cells. Chemo affects different people different ways, no two people react the same way. Chemo is not just one drug; but a combination of drugs for most treatments, therefore, the side effects would not be the same for everyone. If you are the patient, you need to ask you doctor about the pain in your legs. It could be something else entirely. Best wishes and best of luck to you. Don't stop fighting.

some made it some not....I quess it depends what stage your cancer is in,did it spread and what kinda cancer, some respond better to chemo than others.......it also depends how hard you are able to fight.....think positive and all that. Do you know actress Farrah Fawcett,I think she is going over all posible treatments including CHEMO just to live and survive,I hope the best outcome for her....BUT 2 friends of mine died from colon-cancer and 1 just knew it for 3 weeks and was too busy preparing for some operations and chemo.... in the end he died anyway but those 3 weeks he didnt live either so without he would have lived LONGER......anyway its case by case.....i mean what for 1 person works doesnt for the other.I hope you or your family will make the right choice....

"chemo" is a catch all term for a huge variety of drugs and drug cockttails that are used to fight cancer, MS and other diseases.

The side effects depend on the individual and the drugs administered.

The leg pain may be related to a particular drug.

It could also be a sign of odema, which can be a side effect of chemotherapy.

It could also be a side effect of the cancer being treated.

It could also be an unrelated symptom.

Chemo in women can often cause menopause, and this can bring on arthritic symptoms, which can be exacerbated by drugs such as tamoxifen and arimidex used in breast cancer treatments.

Generally, it can take several years before your body has completely flushed the toxins of chemotherapy out of your system, and there can be longer term effects as well.

If you have any new symptoms, such as pain in the legs, this should be reported to your oncologist in case it warrants further investigation.
