It is an inflammatory condition affecting the joints between the ribs. Diagnosis of this is fairly easy. Treatment is anti-inflammatory medications and sometimes rest from significant physical exertion.

Costochondritis is an inflammation of the cartillage that is around the ribcage.

When this condition occurs there can be symptoms that make one think they are having a heart attack because of the pain around the chest wall area. The pain can also wrap around to the back area.

I've been living with costochondritis for nearly 15 years.

The joints between your ribs and your breast bone dry or get brittle. When you inhale or perform any movement that moves your ribs, it hurts in the joints.

Note- this is a common diagnosis for any chest pain that is otherwise unexplained. Be careful and get a second ir third opinion. Look at zoster virus, intercostal neuralgia and any other possibilities, unless someone can 100% prove it is costochondritis
