It is the part in between the front and back doors of a car, inbetween the windows, a verticle strip of either plastic or metal. My friends say that this is why they sit with their seat leaned back, so their head will be covered and not be in front of the window, where a bullet would easily pass through.

But ir would be safe to say that it would be better to get hit by a bullet going through there than through a window right? And yes my city was top in crime for 2006 in California. Stockton, Ca

Unless you have an armoured car (and if you have one you'd know it, and pay for it) don't expect any part of the car to stop bullets.

It depends on the bullet. A small .22 cal bullet fired from a hand gun can easily be stopped by few sheet metal after traveling some distance. A .30 cal bullet from a dear rifle can easily go through a 1/4 inch steel even after 100 yards.

How do I know? Because at my local gun range, I see all these bullet hole on the metal target holder (about 1/4 inch steel at 45 degree) made by the .30 cal guns. But my .22 cal from even my rifle only splatters and don't leave a dent.

I suspect that most other rifles (including assault rifles) are powerful enough that it can go through few layers of sheet metal on cars and still do much damage.

It is common knowledge that a standard bullet proof vest worn by NYC police are only effective at stopping hand gun bullets (not rifle bullets). So they can make a difference in your argument.

Good Luck and stay away from flying bullets.

No. i think the hose pipe in direction of the letterbox may well be effective and a chortle. As you're saying, bless him, in basic terms a lad having a splash bit relaxing, same as I did at that age. My neighbours youthful daughters positioned fake canines poo at your step, as I had defined that "Trick-or-handle" replaced right into a stupid American invention, and being the grumpy previous guy, replaced into no longer engaging. One trick you're able to do, and don't get me incorrect, as i'm getting on nicely with neighbours, is to nip outdoors with each and all of the distant buttons for television, DVD and so forth, and press them willy nilly by a front window. Re-software each and every thing. Then fess up! continuously will advance a grin. Bob the joker

Don't bet your life on it. If you are lucky, the best it will stop is a 22 cal bullet. The area you are talking about is called the "B" pillar.

The fact that people lean back is more of an attempt to look "cool". and it does give the shooter a little less target to aim for.

good luck.

just an FYI, that area is called the "B" pillar. and very doubtful that it would stop a bullet. its about 3 or 4 pieces of sheet metal spot welded together. if a small caliber bullet were to hit in in a weld area or in a spot where the multiple layers are sandwiched together, possibly. but i would doubt it.
definately nothing on a car short of an engine block would have a chance of stopping a large caliber.

Nope. There really isn't any part of a car that could reliably stop a bullet.

Uh, no. Your friend would still die.
And where do you live where getting shot in a car is a common worry?
