Spoken with true ignorance. If it were that simple, then it would have been done. Immigration is a much more complicated issue. Illegal immigrants come in not only through borders, but also by over staying temporary visas such as student visas. You would be suprised to learn that illegal immigrants are in large numbers from places other than Mexico or Central America. Many are from Asia as well. Plus, ensuring that people learn English is a whole can of worms itself. California is practically bilingual. The elementary school by my house has a sign out front for announcements that is written in English and Spanish.

Do you know how many times we have given amnesty to IAs that were all ready here. Yes we could shut the door but immigration is more than just the flow of aliens. It is a way to control the economy. Thus it will get manipulated in any way that the current President sees fit. Are there better systems? Yes. Will they ever be enacted? NO!!! It would defeat the purpose.

LET ME ADD ANOTHER POINT SINCE SOMEONE BROUGHT UP THE SPOKEN LANGUAGE ISSUE...
THERE ARE VERY FEW THINGS THAT HOLD US TOGETHER AS A COUNTRY, OUR SPOKEN LANGUAGE ENGLISH IS ONE THAT BINDS US IN UNITY..

More severe punishment should be taken against people who hire illegal immigrants. And as for the mexican illegal immigrants...the US should embrace its neighbor and seriously discuss some kind of economic reform for mexico to discourage people from leaving their country in the first place. I don't consider immigrants a threat to the US but I don't think we should ignore mexico's lack of direction for its own people.

Well I for one don't consider Mexicans illegal. The land you live on was probably stolen from one of their ancestors. However all other nationalities should be barred from entering on their own and Mexicans should be documented or imprisoned if they don't go get some ID. We don't need unknown killers walking the street. We could just issue all Mexican citizens an American ID so they don't have to enter illegally and they can start paying taxes. No, let's just take over Mexico and get it over with.

How about all of the above with the exception of the citizenship BS? Instead, we send every one of them packing back to where ever they originated from.

Maybe because that door you mention is almost 2,000 miles long. I'm not saying I disagree, but think for a few moments about how long that really is.

Citizenship for undocumented workers will cost $2.5 trillion (congressional testimony).

It is far less expensive to deport them.
