The Pentax K1000 introduced Pentax's first "bayonet" style lens mount, replacing the traditional screw-mount lenses. The K-mount is still used today in the K100D, K110D and K10D Digital SLR cameras. (That means you can use lenses originally designed for the K1000 on the new DSLR Pentax cameras as long as you don't mind manual focus.)

The K1000 is a totally manual camera. It is an excellent student camera since you have to set aperture and shutter speed.

The Pentax MG is an "Auto Program Only" camera. The camera makes all the decisions for you. (Personally that would make it the least desirable camera.)

IMO the K1000 is the better choice.

Edwin is correct. You might not know what all of this means, but here is a great review on the Pentax MG: http://www.camerapedia.org/wiki/Pentax_MG

"There was no shutter dial and the camera could not be used in manual mode." Nuff said?

After 40 years of all manual operation, my father bought a Pentax ME Super and he HATED IT. Hated it, hated it, hated it! He was "replacing" a Pentax Spotmatic, or so he thought. That camera pretty much stayed in the cabinet!

Buy the K1000 or a Spotmatic.

almost all old SLR cameras are comparable in how they artwork. in case you have no lenses, you would be open to apply any of the manufacturers. look into the canon AE-a million or AE-a million application, they have the steel actual and backside like the ok-one thousand and are astonishing cameras all around
