Hiya

Not all churches have flags in them , in fact , probably not many do.

BUT..

They might not fly the flag but what is their stance on matters of nationalism.?
Do they promote a certain man made government as the way to salvation.?
Do they support sending troops to other countries, or even fight in war.?
Do they do as Jesus commanded them and keep neutral of these things or are they always meddling in affairs that do not concern them.?

These are the real questions to be asked., as they show the spirit behind things.

Most churches ARE allied to some political group or another , PROVING that they are not follow Christ.

Jehovah's Witnesses however DO NOT.

We do not go to war , vote or in any way support* a government or political party.

*(apart from paying our taxes properly and obeying its laws which we are told to do so from the Bible)

We are separate from the world and await Christs kingdom that is now reigning in the heavens to come over the whole Earth.

This is the way for 'TRUE' Christians.

IN the church? That sounds almost heretical and reminds me of documentation I watched of Nazis doing the same thing. No. I know of few churches that include a national flag within the church itself, although many fly a flag out front as a display of respect or allegiance.

I have visited many churches and cathedrals (or Kingdom Halls or whatever you feel like calling them) and I don't recall seeing these fly a national flag indoors:

Catholic
United Methodist
Baptist
Unitarian Universalism
American Lutheran
Jehovah's Witnesses
Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons)
Amish

These churches DID fly a flag indoors AND spoke political rhetoric that made me want to vomit because it was so obvious that these churches didn't expect their followers to think for themselves. They seemed more political tools than something representing a God:

Evangelical (every one I have ever seen)
Non-Denominational (not all)

In Lutheran churches in Scandinavia there are little boat models that bear tiny flags, so through this technicality, they do have flags indoors. The Lutheran church is the official church of Denmark, so politics and religion really do cross over there! The Danes don't take it so seriously though - most don't even show up. I heard one minister complain about how they just were members to claim the state-attached benefits such as free burial.

Also, one should not forget that many Catholic and Protestant churches in Germany flew the swastika or even incorporated it into their crosses IN THE ARCHITECTURE during the Nazi Germany time. Was it survival tactics or, like the Evangelicals, did they act as puppets of the state?

Most churches in America don't have nation flags in them. Most civilized modern countries have and follow rules separating state and church. I guess the USA is different. Probably an education flaw.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not have some superstitious aversion to any flag. For example, when Witnesses rent a facility which has an affixed flag, Jehovah's Witnesses do not insist that it be removed from view. Thus, at times such a temporary "Kingdom Hall" may "have a flag in it".

Around the globe, Jehovah's Witnesses respect the governments and flags under which they live. However, Jehovah's Witnesses believe national flags to be idols of sorts and the flag salute to be an act of worship. Similarly, a "pledge of allegiance" can only made to God. Ceremonies involving national anthems can also approximate "worship" and non-neutrality.

Jehovah's Witnesses understand the bible to teach that Almighty God requires exclusive devotion; that is, he requires that worship and unrestricted allegiance belong to Him alone.

(Exodus 20:5) I Jehovah your God am a God exacting exclusive devotion

(Matthew 4:10) Then Jesus said... ‘It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.’

Of course, Jehovah's Witnesses are well-known as law-abiding persons. The Scriptures also teach that obedience is owed to secular governments, which the bible calls "the superior authorities". Of course, such subjection is RELATIVE to the unrestricted allegiance which is owed to God.

(Romans 13:1) Let every soul be in subjection to the superior authorities, for there is no authority except by God; the existing authorities stand placed in their relative positions by God

(Acts 5:29) We must obey God as ruler rather than men

It may be helpful for non-Witnesses to read all of Daniel chapter 3, and note the connections between the ceremony described there and modern pledge of allegiance.

The Lutheran church my mom goes to not only has the federal flag in it, it also has the state flag. Guess they want to cover all the bases.

This is an excellent question. I've never seen one, and I've been in many churches.
