Please go to the links below. You can take a free online professional test for bipolar that is the same as psychiatrists use. There is also info on the differences between deprssion and bipolar.
THEN go see an expert. It is a good idea to get a sense of what is really going on first because many antidepressants make bipolar people worse and doctors almost always prescribe these first.
Good luck and don't worry. I am bipolar and went through a terrible time for a while, but once I got the right diagnosis and treatment everything has been great again.
Both depression and bipolar are treatable and everything can work out for you if you keep asking questions and being proactive about your health like this :)

As someone who's ENTIRE family is bipolar, it sounds like you are. Bipolar consists of "manic" stages, you can be really up for a long time, even YEARS, or...as in your case you can be down for years, months, days or weeks. I would suggest you go to the doctor and ask him to diagnose you. Also find out what your "triggers" are and try to make your life so that you dont have to run into them, it will make it alot easier. My dad and aunt take Abilify, it seems to work very well, and im hoping you get help cause i know that isnt any way to live.

Depression is part of bipolar.
You know the problems that you are experiencing, so a professional will only listen to you.
Sometimes the bipolar can be a result of not looking after your physical health with proper diet and exercise.
See a naturapath who can put you on the correct path to caring for yourself.

Don't try to diagnose this yourself. See a psychiatrist who is trained to help you and is able to prescribe medication, if that's what you need. You don't have to continue to live this way, take that first difficult step or ask someone you trust to help you get to a doctor. Don't give up. Your life can be a whole lot better than you think.

You need to see a professional, there are many things that this could be that would be clarified in a clinical interview, like duration of your moods how often you have suicidal ideation, if you have a true manic phase, how long the duration of this phase.

Get started with both a Psychiatrist and a Therapist.
Let them professionally determine your diagnosis and your treatment for it.
As hard as it might be for you, learn to trust them, and to work with them. Allow them to coach you. As you are being treated medically and psychologically your goal will to maintain your emotions in an even manner, not risking your relationships.
