i like this guy and we are at about the same level of popularity but
for some reason he only talks to me when we are not at school and he flirts with me hard core and stuff i just dont understand whats his problem?

Well, because you are both "about the same level of popularity" he wants to be the cool guy on campus. In other words he is acting this way for one of two ways;

The first is that he is nothing but a flirt. We guys like thinking that we can do whatever we want with woman and get away with it. I've tried and failed because of this so I know! So it might be that he is just using you not as a girlfriend but as a toy-friend.

The second thing is that he has a rep to keep up with. If people find out that the two of you are hooked up, then the girl population around him dies down. We guys love it when we have girls talk to us and the more the merrier!

He maybe popular but he doesn't have the confidence to lead the people that look up to him. Since he is basically in a position of power, he doesn't want to lose that to someone that can make him submissive. So he tries to hide from the crowd. Also, he just might be a shy person about that stuff. I would go with the shyness deal first.

Well, i see two sides of this. One, is that he's shy around you and feels that he is most comfortable talking and expressing his feelings to you when no one's around....OR
He's feels that even though you are the "same level of popularity", he doesn't want to let anyone know that he's interested in you and make it seem that he still single and desirable to others. My advice is to try to talk to him at school.. and watch his reaction. Does he seem shy and a little distant, but happy to see you? Or does he stick up his nose and snub you off? If he completely blows off your effort to try to talk to him, drop him. His status is more important to him than your affections. If he smiles and talks, go for it and try to take it to the next step.

First of I am guessing because you said school you are in high school or middle school. Guys DON'T care what level of popularity you are when they have crushes. It's like this, if he likes you he'll come to you no matter where you are and no matter who is around. Guys like girls for their looks of course, physical attraction comes first and foremost, but they also like confidence and a little chase. Dress up really cute one day and when he comes up to you in the hall play it cool, and keep the conversation to a minimum. Then when no one is looking and you see him give him a wink. He'll love it! Trust me, it'll send chills down his spine. Then just play it by ear. Whatever you do, DO NOT blow up his phone with texts and calls, that'll just scare him away! Instead give him your number and tell him to call YOU. Don't even write down his number and if he gives you it, throw it away. Otherwise you'll sit up all night staring at the number and end up calling it a million times. When you give him your number and if he calls be available but never REALLY available. I'll tell you why, because he probably has alot of "groupies" or girls that he's interested in....and if he's seen solely talking/flirting with you. you are going to be label as his girlfriend...and that my friend is going to blow his popularity contest. there could be a bunch of different reasons... he could just be a jerk... or if he talks to other girls when you're around he could maybe be trying to make you jealous... i think he has this reputation at school as this stud type. he might not want other girls to know he is taken so he can always play the field with the girls...which kindda tells me why he doesn't show interest for you in that way at school. he wants to stay free to flirt with other girls. his problem, if you even want to call it a problem, is simple. he's a male. loose him he's not worth it unless you decide to be JUST a friend and nothing more.

He's a jerk. Treat him the same way and see if he likes it. Don't acknowledge him at school. Pretend he doesn't exist. If he still doesn't get it, then there are other dudes.
