OK so i've seen leviathan everywhere, Final Fantasy, the Bible, Devil May Cry 3, movies, Tv shows, books. Some dude asked a question that reminded me of it. All i know is it's supposed to be some monster of the sea.
I don't believe he exists, obviously,
but what do the legends/myths say of it, who/what is leviathan? and from what religion/culture is it from?

Ok, basically Leviathan is a terrifying sea monster that possesses poweful scales and has a fiery breath. There are many variations of this monster in popular culture but the most common aspect of it is that it's either a serpent or a crocodilian type creature that terrorizes the seas.

Personally I think the Final Fantasy VIII Leviathan was a pretty good depiction of it. ^^

Edit: To the guy below, you're gonna get creamed XD
If that thing were real, chances are you'd more worried if that thing doesn't eat you first! XD

Leviathan means twisted or coiled in hebrew it was first mentioned in the old testamnet.
The word leviathan has become synonymous with any large sea monster or creature. In the novel Moby-Dick it refers to great whales, and in Modern Hebrew, it means simply "whale".
The Christian interpretation of Leviathan is often considered to be a demon or natural monster associated with Satan or the Devil, and held by some to be the same monster as Rahab.
Some biblical scholars considered Leviathan to represent the pre-existent forces of chaos. In Psalm 74:13-14 it says "it was You who drove back the sea with Your might, who smashed the heads of the monsters in the waters; it was You who crushed the heads of Leviathan, who left him as food for the creatures of the wilderness. (JPS edition)" God drove back the waters of the Earth (Genesis 1:2 "And the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters."
Some interpreters suggest that Leviathan is a symbol of mankind in opposition to God, claiming that it and beasts mentioned in the books of Daniel and Revelation should be interpreted as metaphors. The usage of Leviathan in the Old Testament books (Isaiah 27:1) would seem to be a reference to a Semitic mythological beast mentioned in literature of Ugarit, a city-state in North Syria. According to Canaanite myth, the Leviathan was an enemy of order in Creation and was slain by the Canaanite god Baal. The word Leviathan to the ancient Jews became synonymous with that which warred against God's kingdom. This especially included nations warring against Israel such as Assyria and Egypt.

Literally, 'coiled'. In the Bible, and especially the Old Testament, the Leviathan is some sort of chaos animal in the shape of a crocodile or a serpent

In Christianity: Leviatan is a demon, I believe. Specifically in Catholicism, outlined in The Divine Comedy(Dante's Hell, specifically). I believe being consumed by this demon is the eternal punishment for Sloth. There's also a variation of the Christian creation story in which the Leviathan, Behemoth and one other creature are the first beings created. This variation ties in with the truth(My truth) and they will rise again when I call.

But generally, it's one of my tools to end the earth, as just stated above. :)

It is in Genesis Pre flood. A huge creature from the sea. What do you think a monster like the Giants and dinosaurs or perhaps a big fish like a whale?

As far back as I can go I find the meaning to simply mean the hippopotamus.

Seriously, the Hippo.

Many scholars agree, many disagree. But if you study this mean creature it makes sense.

Maybe an extinct dinosaur.

its not a dinosaur, if you look it up in the dictionary...it says it is a whale or croc, usually some type of sea monster.

more than likely is is all mythological. Anyone who says it is a dinosaur is grasping for straws that the bible is real. There is nothing to suggest it is a dino.

It might be a Blue Whale. Those things are freakin' huge! They're the biggest animal ever to have lived, bigger than any dinosaur and they're alive now, in our oceans.
