I am an Athiest and many Christians keep saying that being an Athiest is a straight path to hell. If there really is a God (and Heaven and Hell etc), eventhough I don't believe there is, would He really care if people believed in Him or not if they lived a good life? You keep saying how loving and forgiving and accepting your God is towards everyone, so in the end would it really matter and would God really care if you believed or not, if you were a good, honest, kind person etc.? Just a thought...

And if everything has to be created by something (and Christians believe it is God), well if he is real, who created God? God could not of created himself, because everything has to be created by something right?

Thats all well and good that you are a good person morally, but that is not the point. The point is to realize that you are not perfect and have nothing to offer a perfect God. You broke the contract with God and in his mercy is offering a way back to him. If you reject it then that is your choice and God will honor it. If you accept it then no matter what you have done or what you were before now you are accept by God into his family as a son or daughter.

Here's an analogy that was recounted to me recently:

Getting to Heaven is like trying to jump across the Grand Canyon. "Good works", or being an honest, kind, moral person, will only help you jump so far, but no matter how "good" a person you are, your own jump won't be enough. "Fred" might be a better person than you and might jump farther, but ultimately, you'll both launch yourselves much too short of the other side.

Jesus is the only bridge across the Grand Canyon. He's the only one who can get you safely from one side to the other.

Good question but, goodness alone is not enough. Christ came down here on the earth to bring Salvation. It is important to understand that this is serious. We as Christians can't half-step at Salvation, we have to be real ourselves. In the end, the acceptance from God comes from a person being saved. That's it. To be saved, you must truly realize that you are a sinner and you must repent and allow God to come into your heart but, as I say all the time, it has to be sincere from the heart. There is even people who say that they are saved only because they "do" good things and "say" good things but that is not all that it is about being good is good but it takes Salvation to get to Heaven.

Think of it like a father. A father is loving and forgiving of his son, and raised him to respect authority from parents. What if that son when older moved out after denouncing his father and completely cut off contact from his father. The father would miss the son very much and want him back, but it is up to the son to come and visit his father. Latter on in life, the son decides to get over his hatred toward his dad and decides to visit him. But by then the dad was very old and the son had grown and changed so much that the dad could no longer recognize him. That son could have done wonderful things in his life, but because he never told his dad about his good deeds, the dad never knew about them.

Only Christianity has that believe in me or go to hell nonsense. Oddly, the Jews don't believe in hell. Same God, different story. Makes you wonder who added that part doesn't it?

Hon, hell will be chock full of "good and moral" people. We don;t get to God by being either good or moral. We get to Him through a personal relationship with HIs Son Jesus Christ.

So no matter how much good a person does, if she doesn't accept Jesus as her Lord and Savior she will never make it into heaven.

That is just a quick summary. you need to really study the whole Bible to fully understand it. It is the most important decision you will ever make.

If you are a good, honest, and kind person you will have a chance to go to heaven according to your good deeds and bad deeds calculation. If you accept Jesus and claim His blood the calculation is not done, but you will be allowed as green channel.

Yes it does matter because we must be saved through Jesus. We are not saved through good works, but faith in Jesus. We must repent of our sins and accept Jesus into our hearts.

Edit:
You made a comment about who created God. Take a look at this link. Only things with a beginning require a creator. God does not have a beginning. Thus, He does not need a creator. This site puts it into perspective.

that's an unfathomable question for anyone living in the natural world . even if their was a god no one could know it in this world without lying to themselves .it is worse than imagining an ant understanding what a human thinks entirely impossible but indications suggest strongly there is no such thing anyway
