First off you are lucky! Most of the time when there is an adoption in a family there are no clues to the birth parents.

Seems like the only recourse you have is to try to find VERGIE or VIRGLE in the 1930 census without a last name. You can search for these two spellings at Ancestry.com without using a surname and giving a birth year range of 1902 to 1904 to narrow down. Then you'll have to shuffle thru to find all females. Then work backwards with that...or try the 1910 census with these two first names and the same age range and narrowing down by mother's birth state of MO.
I found no birth records in TX for Wilbur Edward Terry born 25 MAR 1922 in Hopkins Co.
Try http://www.usgenweb and go to the Texas site. It'll give a clickable site for Hopkins county that might have birth listings. That would give you Virgle's maiden name.
Don't give up!
Good luck!

*smile* funny meeting you here, Donna.
time to plan a road trip, maybe. Before you gas up the car, might be worth while to absolutely check the location of marriage and divorce records in Collin, Dallas, and Hopkins. Denton not impossible.. if Virgie ran off to get married. Maybe even Rockwall or Kaufman.
I would not yet rule out based on Alton's lack of memory. Mom's comment is that the Toombs seemed to be persons that were not 'talkative'. It might be worth the time to find the obit from Arizona and see if her kids can be found and asked.

I'm guessing you probably don't know her maiden name? That's one thing that does frustrate me, women's maiden names generally getting lost and making it difficult, or impossible, to trace the family behind them.
I looked at the census thing I can tap into, but I only found the 1920 that you mentioned. If he was remarrying so soon, it's possible something happened to her, or maybe their relationship just didn't survive giving up their child. Possible that maybe she went back to her family and her maiden name

You may be able to find her maiden name on your father's original birth record, but most likely she remarried and it would be hard to find out who she married, because you don't know if she was going by her maiden name or by the last name Terry. Try to find her maiden name on your father’s birth record, or try to find a marriage record for her and her first husband, it should show her maiden name. Most likely she went back to live with family after devoice, so if you get her maiden name you may find her with parents or an uncle. †

Marriage Cert. Lookup Help please...Texas 1941 or 1942
Posted by: Donna Berry (ID *****7985) Date: July 01, 2007 at 20:24:39

Hello, I am trying to locate my Father's marriage certificate from his first marriage. His name was Rudolph Bert Korinek (he mostly went by Bert) DOB:3-25-1922 Dallas Texas. Her name was Jean Elizabeth Haggard born 1923, I think. They both lived in Dallas Texas and were married before my father left for the service in either 1941 or 1942. They were divorced or annuled in 1944 or 1945. His marriage cert to my Mother says divorced. He was also adopted on his 3rd birthday 3-25-1925 by the Korineks. His birth name was Wilburn Edward Terry, birth parents were James Aaron Terry and Virgie T. Terry of Sulphur Springs Texas. I am really lost and don't know where else to look. Thank you. (DONNA BERRY posted it).
Part of first response to above:
Now, as to the adoption information, again, where are you stuck? I found Bert with his father, mother and little sister in the 1930 census in Dallas Co. I found James Aaron and Virgie in Hopkins Co. (county for Sulphur Springs) in 1920. I found James Aaron living with his mother (who evidently had remarried...she has a different last name) in Hopkins Co. in 1910. I found James Aaron's WWI Draft registration from Hopkins Co. You actually have amazing info for an adoption.
Response2:
Hi Andrea, thanks for the reply. I have looked for the MC on ancestry and the Dallas Co Library. But neither had anything. As for the adoption. I have all of that info but I cannot find out who Virgie was...her maiden name, that is, I find her on the 20 census and then on the adoption decree but then nothing. No marriage, death or Divorce cert yet in 1926 James is marrying a Fannie Johnson in Sulphur Springs. I tried to find a DC for James who died in Houston in 1965, I believe...I do have a lot of info but now I am trying to tie up the loose ends, so to speak. I've tried to find Jame's father, Aaron Terry B.1838 possible in IFS(Ireland)with no luck and more on his Mother, Malinda Eubanks whose father was James and mother Jenie (probably Virginia). I am just going back over all the things I have already looked at and cannot find any new information. Alas...I may be at the end of my information line. But thank you for your help and please let me know if you come across anything else
Response 3:
Hi Andrea, thanks again, I do have more leads to follow now. As for a MC from Hopkins, I know they don't have one, I checked with the CC but they have an awesome historical society and they have all existing cert's, I did find my uncle Abram Terry's from 1912! Also where Malinda remarried a mr.Dunivan. I found obits for Malinda, Abram and his wife nettie and I even located a very old daughter of Abram and Nettie and we had a nice chat, I also got to go see the house where my Grandmother Malinda lived in Sulphur Springs and found all of Abram's kids in the HS yearbooks! The daughter did not remember Fannie although she did recall mention of Virgie and also that James was a bum and didn't do much of anything. He had another wife she remembered named Ollie and that they lived in Jasper TX. I found her on the SSDI and also where he died in 65. How do I request a copy of his SS application? That would be great! I also checked with Hunt Co. since Abram was born there. Funny thing was I found the only Virgie B.1903 (I think on the 1910 census,Hunt co.)in the area and her last name was also Terry and her family lived in Hunt Co, which is next door to Hopkins Co.I think that is her although, they don't appear to be the same line of Terry's since I could never place her father from Ireland like I did Aaron and there was a big age difference between the two. Aaron was around 50 in 1888, (I found their original MC at the Greenville TX historical society, from 1888, its in perfect condition) when he married Malinda who was 16! Can you believe it? Aaron died in 1905.
I have my dad's adoption papers from the CC in dallas and thats how I found out his birth name and about the Terry's. I really have been blessed as far as the info trail goes with adoptions. I have a lot on his adoption and I was also adopted and have all of my own info as well.Hey, you have been a big help and I really do appreciate it, sometimes I get stalled and frustrated and need a push and feel like there's more to see I'm just looking too hard! Please let me know how to get the SS app if you know! Thanks again, Donna
