dating is refered to dating more than one person at one time to see who you would like to be in a relationship with, a relationship is you dating someone exclusively and developing feelings for one another

I think that you can date multiple people and that be perfectly acceptable, as long as both people are aware of this. With a relationship however, both people tend to expect the other person to be faithful to them.

Dating is when you're with more than one person but not exclusively. When you're in a relationship you're with one person exclusively.
