I need to sell our bedroom furniture set, but I have no idea what type of wood it is. My husband owned it before we got married and he doesn't even know! It looks like light oak, but with darker circles throughout it. He thinks they're called knots, but I cannot find anything online. If anyone has an idea, thanks!

Depending on the size of the 'circles' . . . the first thing that came to mind was "Birds-Eye Maple". The 'circles' are pretty small and literally look like birds' eyes on blonde colored wood. It's nice wood and certainly a much harder wood than pine. I think that pine has occasional 'circles' (pine knots) but usually more 'swirls' than knots. If you can make a small dent with your fingernail in an inconspicuous spot, then it is probably a 'soft wood' (such as pine). If not, i would think you are dealing with something other than pine wood.

if its really full of knots its what would be called knotty pine. other wood for furniture tries to have as few knots showing as possible.

That is oak that has been stained. It is probably red oak which is the most common for furniture. The other is white oak which is often quarter sawn and has a very distinct "ray fleck" pattern.

I think its pine or pecan. if it has a lot of stripes and circles it is probably pecan. Pecan patterns are also darker than pine.
