They had stock piles of WMD's (weapons of mass destruction) that were missing from the first gulf war. Instead of Saddam and his government letting the inspectors in to prove it he decided to play a game with the US becuase he didnt like our president. He didnt think the US would ever go to war with him since we were in Afganistan. He was wrong. He didnt have them but we had no way of knowing. The US was just trying to enforce a UN mandate that was made after the 1991 gulf war.

We have never been at war with Iraq. We invaded Iraq in late March 2003 to topple the regime ruling that country. Currently we are fighting armed insurgents resisting the Democratically elected Iraqi government. Which albeit isn't doing a very good job.

As it happens a group of Neo-Cons high jacked the presidency in 2004. They trumped up now known to be false info re WMD and terrorism. In fact Saddan Hussein had persecuted people like Osama, he was no religious zealot, he was in it for himself.
