I suffer from depression and anxiety.
I was prescribed the generic form of prozac. After taking it for a a couple weeks, I noticed a huge change.
Situations that would normally make me clam up and make my stomach hurt bcame so easy to handle. Work bcame easier and smoother. I was so much happier and actually not so mouthy...life just went as a smooth flow. Oh yeah I quit crying so much. Crying is what made me realize I needed to see my doctor and ask to check my hormones or something. We had a long talk about my whole life and incidents in my life which has all led to this plus it is hereditary. I learned a lot about what fears have caused this. Prozac has just eased my life in general and let me enjoy social events where normally I wouldn't attend them because I'd kinda freak out and not talk to anyone and I'd be the quiet girl in the back.
I know different anti-depressents work differently on people. This was my first one and it has been great for me.

If it were not for the effectiveness of anti-depressants, It is quite possible that I would not be alive to write this tonight.
Depression followed me for years, trauma and physical harm, and the memory that remained intensified my depression.
Therapy was of great help, but only addressed 1/2 of the entire problem I dealt with.
As my Dr. described it, my brain had literally changed from the traumas, both in shape and in ability to function normally. The use of an anti-depressant is not an option for me if I want to be able to function anywhere near normal. My body does not have the ability to supply what I need. Anti-depressant is used regularly, and has given me my life, my mind, and my relationships back.

I have found that anti-depressants work for myself and my daughters very well. It took a while to find one that worked for me but both of my daughter's were lucky enough to find medication that worked for them the first time that they were given one. I haven't completely gotten over my depression but I'm able to function and to take care of my daughter and to do things that I get enjoyment from. To me that is a big improvement. Both of my daughter's are doing well and able to do things that give them pleasure. My youngest was on the honor roll all last year and the oldest has reapplied to college to get her BA. so I would say that they have helped all of us a lot.

I'm adhd and anti-depressants make me wacko, but I take an anti-anxiety med and I feel so much better. You have to find what's right for you. See your doctor.
