I just cannot fully give myself over. I am trying to believe but it is very hard for me. I half believe, maybe more. I think that I just want to believe so that there is a higher purpose to everything. I want to trust like others do and that seem so sure there is a God looking over us. How can I feel his presence?

Dani....this is the struggle for a lot of people since people want to be able to always SEE what they believe. It takes faith and BELIEVING in a God that you cannot see. Faith is grown in several ways. God gives every man a measure of faith, we can ask for more faith, and reading the Word increases our faith. The biggest thing to remember is that giving yourself over to God is a choice...not a feeling. The feeling will come....but you cannot count on that being a stablizing factor. Your choice made daily with God as your strength IS a stablizing factor. Then watch and see how God works on you. Remember the things He does and that will build your faith....so you can look back on them. Going out into nature is one great way to believe. There is no other explanation for the beauty and harmony.....and organization of nature....other than that God had to have been the one to create it....and maintain it. Trust is something that has to be built up...like in any relationship...its the same way with God. He understands how we need to build that...and will GIVE you a way to believe. ASK Him....search for Him with your whole heart...and you will find Him. He promises that. CLAIM His promise. (Jer.29:13)
I will pray for you that you will be able to take the steps to get to know God and the trust will come. God bless you and
keep you close.

What you are experiencing is the cry of your soul, that part of you that wants to worship God.Jhn 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life". Here is where most could be Christians stop.

Now read on to verse 21 and you will see that although salvation is free, it will cost you everything to keep it.Sounds terribble doesn't it? But its not, as a matter of fact its wonderful.

When we first give our hearts to God we are still in darkness, and who isn't affraid of the dark? We all are, if were truthful.

Now here is your Key to the Kingdom. In Faith walk slowly forward and you will find light.Remember that you are coming out of darkness and going to the light. There is nothing but darkness behind you and nothing but more and more light ahead of you.And when you fall or go bump, and you will.Get up and go on. Press toward the light and you will be blessed.

Jhn 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Jhn 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Jhn 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

Jhn 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

Jhn 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God

Without a doubt, I will be lifting up your prayers and placing them before the King's throne. Will be asking that he help you to feel His presence in your life, that He will whisper and have your heart hear His voice. I know how hard it is to believe, so I will be asking Him to give you the strength you as for, to be able to give yourself over.

Always know, there are many a Christian who answers questions here who would be more than happy to be your friend, to continue praying with you, and to help you grow in trust for the King.

Dani, the first thing we all need is peace WITH God.
God tells us about ourselves and about Him and how we can have peace with Him, in His Word, the Bible.
Each of us is born with a heart of sin because of Adam's sin.
This sin keeps us from having peace with God.
But God made a way for us in sending God the Son, Jesus, to earth to die and pay for our sins. This is because God is just and sin had to be paid for. He is also merciful and paid this great debt for us. We can have peace with God if we believe this is the only way.
Believing what God has to say in the Bible is the key.
He promises that those who seek after Him will find Him.
Keep seeking for truth!

Pray and listen sincerely to God.
It took me a while to realize how to be fully sincere.
For a long time, I thought I was being sincere when I prayed, but I was still sort of too formal, praying what I
heard others pray or from my ideals of what/how I
should pray. I was not really being myself and
when I could finally be myself, I could grow much more.
Don't "try" so hard or try to pattern yourself after
other's faith too much or some ideal of faith you have
- you are unique and the Lord will teach you what you
need specifically - we are on various "tracks"
spiritually that differ a little bit as our personalities are different with different gifts - though, when I say "tracks" I still mean one faith, one baptism in Jesus.
The Bible says "work out your faith"

Peace "IS" your very nature. Dive to the core of your own presence and you will find the Presence.Fully Present, In the Present, As the Presence. Life is what you are not the story put upon the Life. The more still and subtle you become the more you discover - "YOU" are what you are running from and toward!

Give yourself time, believing or having faith is a process, a lifetime process. Even though you want to believe or have faith, it is still a process. A person can reach many levels of faith and trust, all this takes times. Just as you make a lifetime friend, only time reveals how deep the friendship grows.

Oddly enough I'm having the same problem. I think I can accept the existance of God in some form. The problem I have is accepting religion. Specifically, the exclusionary premise that everyone who does not believe is wrong and will burn.

I can't get over that hump.

Dani, If you are seeking God, you WILL FIND HIM! He loves you and desires you to come, willingly to Him! You are taking the first steps to do just that!

Do not stop praying and read His word! Through these, you will begin to see like you have never seen before as He will show Himself to you in many ways. He certainly has to me!

As for feeling His presence, everytime you pray, you are conversing with Him. Let yourself relax and just talk with Him and surrender....it is when we surrender that we most feel His presence! Just experience, speaking!

Keep on doing as you are and your faith, wisdom and understanding will grow as He creates a new heart in you.

Dani, thank you for reaching out and allowing us to pray with you that God will open your ears to His voice and your eyes to His word and your heart to His unconditional love. If you have access to a study Bible, look under faith, then immerse yourself in these passages. Personally, I found it hard to turn loose as well, until a Christian friend said to me...(how does this sound? "Today Rhonda will help God") Immediately, I said, "yeah, I'm glad to help him" to which my friend said "God, doesn't need your help. He knows your heart and your desires. When you pray to God about something....let it go and let God. He is so faithful and loving. Accept God into your heart and then rest in His Grace. It is awesome the amount of love He has for you.....once you invite Him into your heart, read the word every day. There are many devotional guides that help me stay on track with my daily reading. He will not fail you......He is with you every second of every day. Stop, look, listen as you begin your day....pray that God will lay His hand on you and make His presence known.....then be silent and still.....He will do it. If you have friends who are believers fellowship with them. Ask them to pray with you. I will pray for you, Dani, that you will know the joy of His love and presence.
