He walked from the shore to the boat. He had told those on the boat to go to the other side. Jesus dismissed the crowd and went up on a mountainside to pray...later that evening he came down alone and started walking to the boat.
Matthew says the boat was "many stadia" away, Mark says that the boat was "in the middle of the lake", John says "about 25 to 30 stadia" (3 to 3.5 miles).
The "lake" was the Sea of Galilee (John mentions going "across the lake to Capernaum"...Capernaum is a city on the Sea of Galilee). The Sea of Galilee is about 8 miles long by 14 miles wide so depending on where you measure it from, the "middle of the lake" could be anywhere from 4 to 7 miles away from the shore. This suggests that all three accounts were that he walked a similar distance...most likely between 3 and 5 miles.
How long did it take? No doubt Jesus was in better shape than I am and I think it would take me about an hour to walk four miles...a world class racewalker could probably do it in 25 minutes...Jesus probably did it in about 45 minutes????

Jesus is God in human form and can therefore do anything like walk on water far away from shore. The point in scripture was to illustrate faith and to keep our eyes on Jesus. Peter, who was in the boat, called to Jesus asking if that was really Him and if so, would He call Peter out of the boat. Jesus said "come." Peter walked out on the water and was doing fine until Peter looked at his circumstance, as soon as he took his eyes off Jesus he began to sink( must have been some deep) and had to call out, "Master save me!" Jesus reached for Peter's hand and helped him into the boat. The boat must not have been too far from shore because scripture says they were suddenly there on shore. It's comforting to know; Jesus said "I will never leave you or forsake you."

He walked on the sea...
The Bible does not say how long it took and it really don't matter how long it took.....This passage was only mentioned to show how powerful Jesus is....

Yes to your first question. far enough to to br deep enough to catch fish in. I don't think 'time' is relative in that message of scripture. Though I seem to recall they left a while before he did, yet he 'made good time' catching up to them.
