How does a doctors office weigh a large person when their size and weight exceeds the office scale capability.? My sister weighs more than our local doctors office's scale is capable of reading. I thought if they could get two scales, side by side, we would have two readings the sum of which would be her weight. What do you learned folks think?

I think once it reaches that stage..the actual numbers don't matter For medical reasons. A good doctor can estimate pretty closely. But if was just for a reading they might have an industrial type of apparatus such as a sling or something. There are scales that are calibrated to start at 500 pounds and can go to 1000 pounds for medical use but the are very expensive (Such scales usually cost between $500 and $3000) and I have never seen one in a doctors office but they *do* exist. They might have access to one at another location.

I've heard of people doing that with pianos, I think it would work but I say better to go to a facility set up for that. Lets say you go to Weight Watchers, their scale would work for you. You can attend a meeting the first time for free.

Most hospitals have facilities to weigh a bed with a patient in it. (They know the tare weight of the bed and bedding.)
