The phrase "speak your mind" implies rudeness and offensiveness. You can say what you think without offending people, and if you can't, then don't speak. I have opinions about all kinds of things, but that doesn't mean I need to share them with the world around me. Being unkind just isn't appropriate, and disguising by saying you're speaking your mind is denying responsibility for the hurt your words can cause, not to mention the way you can make yourself look like a fool. Better to choose your words carefully and do everything you can to respect the dignity of others. Reserve speaking your mind and sarcastic humor for references to your own faults and foibles, and you'll find that others will like you and enjoy you more.

Honesty is loved, believe me, its just that ppl don't like it when someone is too honest. The trick is to be tactful unless u don't give a fuc k about some c unt.
Only when I'm put on the spot, when a person wants to know what I think of this and that do I tend to speak my mind and yes, I tend to be blunt sometimes and a little too honest now and then. I have offended a few people in the past and this is my take, if u didn't mean to be offensive apologise in a sincere way.
You can't get a break, there are ppl out there who get offeneded sooo easily!, seriously they have skin as thin as paper!. Apologise to those you care about or didn't mean to offend(eg friendly stranger) and those who r not those type of ppl, screw 'em. You will never be able to not offend ppl just like u haven't be able to avoid it when u cop it so, just live your life.

I'm pretty blunt myself. You'll always either be loved or hated, unless you change your ways, but if you do that, you won't be true to yourself.
You've hear the phrase, "The truth hurts", well it really does. No one wants to look at themselves in an honest light most of the time. Most people view themselves differently than what the world around them sees. To take away their facade means there are flaws they have to deal with and no one wants to think of themselves as flawed. It is much easier to gloss over these details about ourselves and believe in something different altogether.
If you were to tell a woman that she wasn't pretty, just ordinary, you'd crush her. She NEEDS to feel beautiful, even if it is in her own mind.
If I knew of a way to be honest with people yet not have them take offense at what I say, I'd think the world is about to end. You have to toughen up a bit if you are going to be an honest, blunt person. I don't feel like I should have to sugar coat anything for anyone and I don't. I am hated by lots and you know what? I could really care less. Like I've been told, I have the tact of a brick wall and that is how I like it.

I have that same problem. But over time, I've learned how to be blunt, but in a positive light so that people take no offense to what I say. Although being "true" is a value to honor, we live in a world where you need to get along with people to make the world go round, which means you need to adjust your bluntness is various tones according to the situation it asks for.

I do and sometimes it really offends people to speak the truth. I know why usually when I look at the profile and notice they really got something wrong with them so it really does not matter what they think. I think it is refreshing to have someone speak what's on their mind. I usually take the truth at face value and usually I try to make a point to seek the truth. Be free speak your mind girl.-Power to the people-

Its all about choosing when its appropriate to be honest and when you should keep your mouth shut.
Constantly speaking your mind is not a good quality, so try to think before you speak. Be aware that some people are more sensitive then others and might take the things you say to heart. I'm sure you just like to be honest and thats good, but not everyone can handle the truth! ;)

I do have a tendency to speak my mind...on the road at stupid drivers...in stores at parents with misbehaving kids...on this site at people who are rude to other people!!! I speak my mind.
But at work, I learn to keep my big mouth shut with my boss, if I want a steady paycheck.
I still do believe that "honesty is the best policy". It saves a lot of time and trouble.

There is nothing wrong with expressing our thoughts and ideas. Just use a little diplomacy. Consider others feelings. I always say that sincerity of belief does not guarantee correctness...

I think it's because it depends what it is. People rarely love a negative comment regardless of whether what they did was wrong or right, bad or good or just neutral.
